'07 990 ADV EFI Issue - Need Help

Hey Guys,

My ADV is running like a pile of shit. Here's what I've done to it in the past and what I've done to trouble shoot:

Mods:
  • Canesterectomy
  • Air injection garbagectomy (with simulator)
  • BMC Filter and spongy oiled prefilter dealio
  • O2 Sensor Eliminators
  • Reimus 2 into 1 and Ti can
The problem:

When riding along at constant throttle under low load (around town driving) it will run smooth and then it will feel like the throttle has just been closed. Actually it feels worse than that, almost like the secondary butterflys have closed. Under full or even normal acceleration it feels great. Also, at times the idle will wander drastically, even getting as high as 5000 rpm. Shutting the bike off and restarting will normally bring it back down to normal.

What I've done:
  • Installed the Acro tune. This resulted in more power (I think...) but everything else the same
  • Installed the stock tune. this is my current tune
  • Swapped batteries as per a few threads. No effect.
  • Set TPS as per manual
  • Removed fuel pump and replaced filters. I went with a field servicable external filter. Interestingly during all of this work I ended up with a leaky fuel line. It was the line that feeds the injector rails about 6 inches from the rails. Weird...
Anyway, I'm guessing that it has somthing to do with the secondary butterfly servo system but I havent found anything on problems/cures for that.

Any feedback would be great as I'm planning to ride the POS across Canada in a few weeks and would prefer to ride it than my VFR...

Cheers,

Wes

Too much done.

Verify the TPS both warm and cold engine. Mine currently according to tuneecu is 0,69v cold and dark, while warm is 0,63 / 0.64.

Zuber has pointed previously in other threads the possibility of a bad download of the tune into the ecu. Try to repeat.

Test if the O2 sensors ON/FF do any change.

Verify if you have any air leaks with so much surgery going on!

You mention a fuel leak, since its a fuel injected engine, the throttle bodies need a constant good flow of juice...

0.62 cold, 0.60 hot (measure in tuneecu as well as with a multimeter (same readings))

Have tried 3 different tunes to date

Test if the O2 sensors ON/FF do any change.

I actually have another set so I'll give this a try. O2 is only used sub 5500 rpm and I think I have the same crap above that rpm but I'll try

Not sure what you mean on this one

Yes, i fixed the leak. It was quite catastrophic and was doing the same before and after the fix.

Been there. Done that.
My TPS was fine at idlle but had a bad spot just off idle and i was able to see it with a DVM. The TPS sensor is not available for an 07 ( you have to buy the whole throttle body) but it is on an 2011.
I gave it a try and set the idle/wot voltage cold but checked hot too.
Here is a link to what I did.
hope this helps.

Thanks a bunch for the feedback. I was thinking about it being a bad TPS (had the same problem on my '67 Mustang) but couldnt find any mention of it.

Ordered one today and should be here mid next week.

Thanks again,

Wes

TPS swapped and all is well. I'm about 4000 kms into my cross Canada trip and have just checked into a hotel in Montreal. Halifax is next.

I do what I want. ..

Loving life
