Project TLR200 Trailbike - Brakes?

Working on the TLR 200 Trailbike project, on the subject of brakes. While they are miniscule in size, any suggestions as to how to improve their limited performance?

I have not seen any brake shoes with different compounds, they all seem to be about the same. Twin Shocker suggested modify the shoes with a different material and anchoring the front brake cable to the front fender support. Anyone have photos of either of these options and/or can provide a how to?
