China - Yes again...

The KLR650 I used for the Americana tour.

I spent almost 6 months doing the SF to TDF tour and stayed home for 2 months before the travel bug started to be unbearable again. What to do? I saw a 3 weeks gap that I can escape but my bike in China has been sitting idol for almost a years now. Getting it back on the road means certain amount of work. Then the 7.2 scale earthquake and the continues downpour in Sichuan made any travel plan unattractive. Just as I was pondering my options, a friend in Yunnan suggested that I can use his bike. How generous. So I hopped on a plane to Kunming and changed to a bus to get to Chuxiong. It was nice to see old friends again.

The red bike in the garage will be my ride for the next 2 weeks.

This old lady now 74 has been mending my torn clothes since 2009 and each time I return to this town, I go visit her.

Sounds great! I've always wanted to go to China. The Huashan trail and some of those monasteries are on my bucket list.

Enjoy the ride and hope you have really nice weather without rain, heat and humidity. I'll be over in Sichuan / Yunnan later this year..... great fantastic riding in the area as you know very well anyways.

I picked up the borrowed bike and head for Dali the next day. It was raining the whole morning and I have decided not to take the country road as it is in very bad condition. Riding on the highway was not as easy as I thought. The Chinese brand tires are ok on dry road but dame slippery on wet road. I started to slide whenever I get over 100kmh. I even stopped to make sure my tire pressure is correct or not. After 2 sliding incidents, I have decided to ride below 100kmh so I can make it to Dali alive. On a straight downhill slope a car in front of me slightly touch its brake to slowdown and ended up sliding uncontrolablly, I slowed down as I watch the car lost traction, hit the road side barrier and jumped over the barrier landed on its left side in the ditch. I pulled over to the side carefully, ran on foot back to check if the driver is alright. He climb out from the window unhurt. After making sure he knows how to call highway patrol for help, I took off. I am worried lightening do strike twice.

The rain stopped as I pulled into the old city of Dali

I spent too much time riding. So I have to cut down on my surfing hours.
