RIP Alan Jefferys

This one hits a little close to home.

Alan Jefferys, who was a Vermont MSF instructor and a motorcyclist through-and-through, from enthusiasm for vintage racing to a garage full of machines (in various states of assembly, from rideable to in a box), passed away after crashing on Saturday afternoon. The Vermont State Police have released this info, which is minimal.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to his wife, family, and friends.

On 7/13/13 at approximately 15:45 hours, State Police in Middlesex responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision on VT Rte. 14 in the Town of Williamstown, VT.

Investigation indicates that a 67 year old male from Vermont was traveling south on Rte 14 when he veered off the right side of the roadway. The motorcyclist collided with guard rails, ejecting him from the motorcycle. The male was pronounced deceased at the scene by EMS personnel.

State Police continue to investigate the collision. Speed does not appear to be a factor. State Police are withholding the name of the male involved until notification of family.

Hmmmm, just veered off the road? I wonder if he might have had a medical issue that caused it since the State Police don't thing speed was an issue.

RIP brother. Riding now where all the roads are smooth and the turns are nicely banked.

Chris

The obit is up at http://www.ourherald.com/news/2013-0..._Jefferys.html and is worth reading for one heck of a life story.

It does mention that he was short on sleep and that "he appears to have nodded off on a straightaway four miles from home."

Wow, not many people in life you meet with a life that reads like that.

Very interesting guy/ life story.

Never met him, but don't think i will ever see a Dos Equis (most interesting man in the world) commercial again and not think of him.

RIP 2 wheeled brother.....

oh, no!

i met alan in 2011, and we communicated for a year and a half or so. i was looking for a cb500/550 project, and he had a shed full of xs650's, a coupla duc's, a few bsa's (his advice - stay away from them, they're crap).

one time, i was asked over to his house where i met his lovely wife and entered his "shop". he was tinkering on a velocette, and had a vincent engine on the bench. oh, yes.

there were engines, parts and half-finished projects everywhere, including hanging down from the ceiling. he was, apparently well known in some circles.

we exchanged many emails, always pleasant and helpful in is advice.

we last met trying to come to terms on a cl450, but alas it never happened. we were both too stubborn : )

i feel very badly for his wife, she's very nice.

rip brother.
