Looking for the coolest place to camp in West Virginia?

I have a couple days off coming up, I'm planning on heading south for some time on those amazing WV roads. But I was wondering if there was any places to camp up in the hills or by a river that was cooler since it is suppose to be super hot next week?

Also are there any cool motorcycle shops or camping supply stores I should checkout.

I'm planning on wandering around in the section of the linked map below that is marked avg temp in the 70s and maybe going as west as Parkersburg.

Thanks for any advice!!

I can't tell you too much about staying out of the heat, but last summer after the "Hatfields and McCoys" series on History channel, I took a weekend trip down to the Tug river valley and tried to find as many places that were involved in the feud as I could, and it was really cool. Found the courthouse where the pig trial went down, the spot where the McCoy boys shot anise hatfield's brother, and found both familys' cemeteries. Was a neat ride and mostly along very isolated areas, probably camp just about anywhere down there. That's what I did anyway.

Helvetia, Dolly Sods, Spruce Knob, Blackwater Falls, Highland Scenic Highway all very scenic in your general area.

Thanks for replies I'm building a good list of options. Laurel Fork was one I had seen on the map that looked good.

Davis, Mount Storm area stays pretty cool. There a campground in Dolly Sods as well.

It's always chilly atop Highland, Dolly Sods and Spruce Knob.

A couple of other options if you are going to be in the Pocahontas County area:

Seneca State Forest

Anywhere on the Williams River

Thanks again for all the camping options. It sounds like I'm going to want to stay in the state forests and look for high ground. That was kind of what I was planning but know I have a list of campgrounds to be on the lookout for. Thanks!

Any must see things I should check out? Interesting places to eat, odd buildings, lookouts to pull off at, etc?

I have ridden east of 81 in VA and western border of WV but haven't explored around the Monongahela or Seneca forests.

Big Bend is great but at low altitude - 1100ft if I remember correctly.

Laurel Fork Campground is around 3100ft.

I would go to Red Creek Campground in Dolly Sods which is right at 4000ft.

It would be about 15 cooler at Red Creek vs Big Bend.

Spruce Knob Lake is also at 4000ft which might be a good option as well - never been there.

One interesting option would be to take FR79 off of Smoke Hole Canyon Rd up to the ridge. You would be at 3700ft and smack dab in the middle of some great riding. You could scoot down to Big Bend Campground to shower if needed.
