Some Photos...

Here's a few photos to start off with

I rolled past Manitoba on the first day...can you spot the radar trap

And into Saskatchewan where I spent my first night

Next day...this is the actual border between Alberta and Saskatchewan, right in the middle of Lloyminister. The tall post, there are a few of them, is the border line. The sign is a bit further west on the outskirts of town

Cold Lake Alberta features...well, a Cold Lake

Cold Lake, AB Marina

Good stuff Rob! Can we do a somewhat...errr...shorter ride sometime?? I'm sure Nanabijou would be stoked for something like that, as well.

Shorter ride would be nice Ron

Going to be a little while before I get the bike cleaned up and refreshed

Post Trip...

So I'm in the process of post trip cleanup, washed the bike to get the initial dirt off of it, then I can go thru it and take stuff apart and clean/fix parts. On first glance I've noticed the Fan blade is crooked (holding nut loose maybe), One head bolt is leaking at bit (maybe loose), screw missing from rad shroud, plastic cover on Kickstand is broken (not biggy as I don't even have the safety attached) and one pannier has bent lower mounting hooks (upon further investigation, the pannier itself was bent out a bit. My fault as I was trying to take them off after the Dalton, they were stuck and I pulled hard and the damn thing slipped out of my hand and fell off). So far that's tally of things to fix...nothing major

A self portrait of myself riding on Hwy 1 to Hay River, Northwest Territories

Another shot of the new bridge over the Mackenzie River, NT

Hay River has a nice beach on Great Slave Lake

Hwy 3 to Yellowknife, NT

Anyone know what this bird is?

Camping in Yellowknife...note the crushed rock bedding for a tent site The other sites I saw had a nice deck but not mine

Video...

I had planned to video this whole adventure on my Go Pro Hero 2 but on about day 8 the mic jack quit working. Not sure why but after a couple of days of trying to figure it out, I gave up. I was going to put together a nice long video of the whole trip and post it on youtube but now I'm left with just posting small little vids of the trip.

Here's one while I was on the Mackenzie...although I called it Liard Hwy, probably cause that's where I was going

KLR Fan Blades...

I removed the Fan blades and had a closer look at it and discovered that steel mounting holder in the center of the plastic fan appears to have melted and re-hardened on an angle I did some reading into this an it appears to be a common problem. Long, hot rides cause the steel holder to heat up to the point that the plastic melts around it

Now, I checked into a new fan blade...not sold separately and to by a KLR fan it's around $300...what a joke!! I read up a bit online and found that apparently the fan off of a Ninja EX500 will fit and you can get one off ebay for under $50...so that's what I did!

That looks like a sandhill crane.

Awesome trip report. Especially after the way it started. I was reading it at the beginning, and figured maybe you'd cancel. Glad you didn't.

Great Ride

Great ride report, I need to do a long trip like that to Alaska. But like anyone else trying to find the time away from work.

Dalton Video...

Alright, here's what I have for a Dalton Video...this is when the Go Pro refused to record any voice and was actually pretty unstable for some reason but I've put a video together and added some strange youtube music to put some noise to it So I hope you like it...it's all I have to offer
