Stage 9 - Aug 02nd
Minaçu (GO) - Goianésia (GO)
Special : 264 km
TOTAL: 550 km

Get to know a bit about today’s host city: Goianésia (GO)

The municipality of Goianésia (GO), that is located 170 kilometers from the capital, Goiânia, is bathed by the springs of the rivers: Rio dos Peixes, Rio dos Bois and Rio dos Patos. Originally it belonged to Jaraguá, but in 1953 its territory was dismembered.
It has one district, Natinópolis, and five villages: Juscelândia, Cafelândia, Morro Branco, Barreiro (Limoeiro) and Campo Alegre. With around de 61 thousand inhabitants, the locale is beginning to stand out as pole for its sugar and alcohol production, in the regional scenario as well as nationally, with three important sugar and alcohol mills.
It is the first time that the organization of the Sertões International Rally includes the city of Goianésia in its route, being an unprecedented locale for the competitors in the biggest off-road rally in Brazil.
Tourist attraction points: Princesa do Vale Park and Lake, Negrinho Carrilho Lake and the Florescer Ecological Park.

Goncalves wins stage 9 and now leads overall by nearly 26 minutes. He is a stage away from his first major rally win. Also, with KTM and HRC debuting new bikes for Dakar, this bodes very well for the upcoming Speedbrain riders who will be astride a very sorted, very fast, very capable proven winner. Chavo, Ceci, and Botturi must be chomping at the bit.

Cool stuff. Judging from the photos and videos it looks like the focus is more on riding than route finding for this rally. Thanks for keeping us updated!

that looks like aprticularly stunning scenery.

I'd have thought that Gonsalvesh opening up 20 Min on Cyril would mean cyril had a problem. No? Just Speedy? and not so speedy Cyril? Is he taking it easy and not pushing for an overall?

9th Stage, Friday, August 2nd
MINAÇU (GO) - GOIANÉSIA (GO)
Initial Liaison: 32 km
Stage: 264 km
Deslocamento final: 254 km
TOTAL: 550 km

One day to go. On the 9th day of the Rally dos Sertões 21st edition, the competitors reached the city of Goianésia after a 264-km stage and liaisons that combined 550 km. And the competition showed its character: it is always unpredictable. In bikes, Paulo Gonçalves won for his own surprise after falling from his Speedbrain 450 and broke his roadbook, having to navigate using his hands do pull the references on the paper. His victory margin was of 3min26secs over Marc Coma (KTM).

"For me it was a tough day because I had a fall right after the refueling, and without the device that turns the road book automatically I had to do it riding the bike, so I slowed down. This was the reason I did not expect to go well today at all, so now I’m going to try and stay cool and focus tomorrow and not let this title escape", said Gonçalves. His unexpected win allowed the Portuguese to open the gap now to more than 25 minutes over Cyril Després, who did not have a good day, at least looking at the time table, since he was only 8th today.

"I was going well, in front of everybody and with a good margin over Paulo, but with 20 km to go I got lost on the GPS navigation and lost some minutes. But at least I got to the end of the stage", the Yamaha rider celebrated. First runner-up Marc Coma is back to the battle against his French rival. The gap between them is almost 12 minutes.

Jakub Przygonski and Fausto Mota completed the top-four-non-brazilians of the day. Jean Azevedo made the honor for his country being 5th and best Brazilian overall, in fourth with his Honda 450.
