Cal's explanation

Crutchlow, team media release after the race:

"Maybe last year in the same situation I would have pushed and not finished, so that is one positive we can take from what was a tough weekend and it certainly isn’t how I wanted to go into the summer break. Right from the start of the race I was on the limit and couldn’t go any faster. I got beat fair and square and the three on the podium definitely deserved it. I tried my best and didn’t give up but sometimes you have to accept you can’t do any better."

Of course, he could be bullshitting for public consumption and the real reason he finished where he did was his desire to promote Factory Yamaha's interests.

Rossi didn't look very stable on the brakes all day, and the corkscrew is a beast anyway, blind, a hill in the braking area the front end light.

I think the MotoGP world is trying to come to terms with what Marquez represents, a dominating force from the moment he swung his leg over the RCV Honda.

Best that he get himself a 1st place this year then. What a waste. I understand the $$ and the factory support and lifestyle, but resigning yourself to fighting for 8th place?

Cal's not the youngest guy in the paddock, and despite his skills, there are numerous up-and-coming riders ready to replace him. If he wants the factory pay cheque to set up himself and his family, he'd better take it now. It's a shame that he'll likely be languishing in the lower half of the top 10.

Anyone else notice the Nissin patch on Bradl's leathers at the post-race Q&A session?

Thought he is now using Brembo binders?

He was a great rider, just not very smart,

I'm sure Nicky is breathing a sigh of relief now that an end to 5 years of it is in sight.

If so that would improve Nicky's chances at Gresini next year. I just think ditching Bradl would have been really unpopular and now it seems like they only have to ditch one of the satelite honda riders.

Which begs the question, why does Ducati want him? Why not some cut-and-thrust malleable youngster eager to throw his body down the track? Crutchlow is only a small step from Hayden - a bit more fire in the belly, but perhaps less development skill, and certainly a crapshoot in the PR dept.
