GSW 6k service questions -

Curious as to the cost of your 6k service and what was done?
Thanks,
TBob

Ok - I guess I should be more specific for the less entitled.
So I'm asking to get a good baseline on cost as well as
if valves needed to be adjusted or not.
Not that we've ever seen different cost for the same service posted on here before

Cost varies greatly with labor rates. Are your labor rates $75/hour or $105/hour? As for what is done... that info has been posted here before. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showt...php?p=21319940

600 mile running check should have been round 280

6 k is just an engine oil change, 70 in parts and 45 in labor unless its in downtown manhattan

Oil change, DIY but remember it's dif oil now and around a 1/2 quart more... like that matters!

Still waiting to see results on these valves. The adjustment process is a bit more in depth, but if they move as little as the preceding model I'm not worried.

From what I can tell it looks like a Camhead adjustment. Not sure how to rotate the motor though.

Anyone have a copy of the factory manual I can borrow briefly?

I'm up early to take my bike in for its 600 miles service, it would be nice to see a sheet on what the 600 and 6k service entails, the dealers can be notoriously vague when you ask them what all the service involves.

600 service is oil change, final drive oil change, bolt check, general bike check, computer & updates check. Mine was $195. FWIW, as an extra task you should ask them to check the level of mineral oil in the clutch reservoir, it might be overfilled.

Re: rotating the engine for valve check, presumably for DIY 12k mile service: just put it in 6th gear and turn the rear wheel. Once the clutch is fully engaged, the slipper shouldn't make a difference. Remove the spark plugs to make it even easier.

Thanks nwpa, I missed that first time around.

My dealer gets $300 for the 600 mile service, seems rather high for essentially an oil and rear drive lube change.
They threw the service in when I bought the bike though.
