Tendon pain after 4-7 days on the bike

It's coming upto my annual pilgrimage to Morocco that means ~3 weeks of riding with 2-2.5weeks off road, usually 8+ hours/day.

Last time out on the KTM I got pain in my right hand from near the wrist underneath my arm stretching up towards the elbow - it felt like tendons but I could be wrong. I also lost strength in that hand - if it was tendons I'm not sure how the strength could actually decrease?

Any advice of some constructive stuff I can do before the next trip in about 2 months?

My list so far is:
1 - Consider seeing doctor to see what they say (probably don't ride the bike so much :(
2 - Get a throttle lock for the road bits will give me a bit of rest
3 - Consider trying the bars off my enduro bike (less bend)
4 - Change grips?
5 - Arm exercises?

I'm not sure I will be able to take any more rest days - think I had 2 last time.

The problem with 3,4 and 5 is I cannot test these things before I go it probably takes 4 days to 1 week before symptoms appear and I won't be doing that much riding again before I go, they could also make things worse....

I feel your pain.

No doubt the stock bars suck and the following pictures will give you a reference to use while sitting on your bike to show just how much stress is being put on your arm.
Flexx 12 compared to stock.




The following shows me sitting and then standing with no change in grip position with my Flexx 12 Enduro high bars and as you can see there is no stress on my arms. Throw in the damping effect and I'm never using any other bar ever again and have installed these also on my 690.





One last thing to also consider if you've been riding for a while is that you could possibly have a dislocated thumb and not even know it. I use to have a terrible time during track days until a fellow rider who also happens to be an orthopedic surgeon told me my thumbs were dislocated and once they were reset all pain and discomfort was gone...............at least until my next get off, LOL. You play, you pay!

I wonder if foam grips would help as well... That's what them there Dakar riders use (or used to...) for many long days in the saddle.

Tennis elbow or RSI.

Different bars may help as might foam grips which are a larger diameter than the rubber type and reduce vibes

I had similar symptoms but since changing to SX bars and foamies (get the good pro grips CID they aren't domed in the middle) I haven't had dead hand once

Might try some of the flexx bars and the little gripper hand strengthening things help tons

Do your squeezies on a regular basis. Do them until your hand is tired, then wait a day or two, and do them again until tired. Anytime I slack off on this routine, I start having trouble with my throttle hand.



Edit: I should say "start having more trouble." I am old, so I always have some trouble. I guess you could say I am losing my grip.

I use a throttle lock.

It is called throttle rocker. Very comfy.

could be tight shoulder muscles impinge the nerves to the arms and create pain, especially in the underside of the elbow...loss of strength is usually associated with this...also bone spurs in the shoulder joint, (little stalactite shape growths of bone caused by impact, created in the body's attempt to heal itself from the impacts) will also result in arm trouble, cramping and loss of strength, they can be scoped out....been there.
