Any LED headlight options available?

I've been looking into a headlight upgrade for my R100RS. It currently has the stock 8" enclosure with a PIAA 55/60 W bulb installed by the PO. The projected light is pretty bad, especially compared to the Truck-lite 7" LED headlight I installed on my Honda CB.

That said, the issue I see is the size difference. I can't find anyone who manufactures a 8" LED replacement. There are H4 LED bulbs that can be swapped into the original housing, but they do not put out nearly enough light to be replacements; most are advertised as daytime running lights only.

I've read about HID options on this board and others. It seems like a possibility, but I don't like the complication of an additional box, and issues with the dark spot due to the cap in the housing.

Has anyone found either a suitable LED option, or possibly a 8" to 7" housing conversion so as to use existing 7" fixtures?

That's the exact one I'm referring to. Unfortunately it will not fit without some kind of conversion ring, as it's only 7".

There is one of these 7" lights at BoxerMetal and I have been eyeing it for my project. Not only do you have to create a new ring to make it fit the bucket, but you have to think about heat transfer and venting. Since the LED is a sealed unit you *should* be able to just pop some holes in the bucket as long as you aren't doing long distances in the pouring rain.

Actually, those Truck-lite 27270 LED headlights are fully DOT legal.

As for heat dissipation, they're designed to fit into enclosed headlight buckets without modification. They have about 3 pounds of aluminum on the back to help with heat, but in my experience they don't get nearly as hot as a filament bulb sitting in the same bucket. I've been running one already on a Honda CB500 for a year.

Boatman was kind enough to respond to my inquery, however, his conversion ring has a 8.5" OD, which is way to large for my attachment ring and bucket. My measurements indicate I need about 7 3/4" OD to fit in the R100RS. This is the strangest sized light I've ever seen, I can't find any Google references to whatever standard it may have adhered to...

The Slash Fives, and the R65/R45 and R80ST G/S all had the smaller reflector... maybe try a bucket from one of those?

lighting

have you considered a 100w halogen? been running one in my r75 since 1982 or thereabouts, after a truck turned left in front of me. hasn't happened since, 'cause i'm being seen now.

they're for off-road use only, but have never been stopped.
