AZ new bike taxes & fees

I haven't been able to find a used DR650 that I want to buy.

I'm staring to think new and am trying to get a grip on what to expect before I walk into a dealership.

I think this is what it will look like:

Bike MSRP $6,399.00
Suzuki Cash -$ 400.00
VLT $ 107.78
Title $ 4.00
Registration $ 8.00

Now it will either be Ride Now or Apache so the questions are:

Dealer Doc fees
Dealer Prep fees
Dealer Freight fees

I haven't bought a new bike in 10 or more years so I'm not sure what they are trying to get away with these days. I don't want to over pay. I know they will try everything in the book to get more out of a person so I want to be prepared.

Thanks for any light you can shed on the subject.

I know I don't have to pay MSRP but price negotiation is the easy part, it is all the fees that can get you.

Don,t worry about all that crap. Just work off an Out The Door price. I think if your OTD price was at or below the MSRP you are doing OK.

Dont be scared to talk to multi dealers and stick to what you want to pay. Dont be scared to be jew. DR650 arent exactly hot items at the moment so you should be able to find one at each dealer. I would try to get a $5,250 OTD price. If no one can touch it they will at least try to come close. Basicly any OTD price below MSRP is great deal. Good luck

This is why I hate buying new.........

My name is Derek from Apache Motorcycles Scottsdale. Thank you for emailing us about the Suzuki DRZ650. I can offer you an OTD price of $6975 and I have a machine ready for delivery today. Suzuki is heavily invested in financing incentives at the moment and to your advantage they are offering the 0% financing. You can apply here in the dealership and I can usually have an answer within minutes. Please feel free to contact me at your convenience if you have any further questions. Thanks again!

Buying from a dealer is a real "cash suck". In addition to the things you have listed is sales tax. The amount of money dealers are asking over and above the cost of the bike have lead many to the used market. I have seen "Set Up Charges" as high as $595.00, "Doc Fees" at $395.00 and "Freight" as high as $495.00. Fees and taxes sky-rocket the price of a new bike sometimes $2000.00 over MSRP.
Remember buyng a new bike only gets you the bike, you still have to buy the accessories you want to make it what you want.
Negocate a deal from the "out the door" prospective, do not get in a hurry, dealers smell anticipation and will take advantage.
Keep your eyes on the used market, DR650's show up on a regular basis. You may not find the exact bike you are looking for but I'm sure you will be able to make the the exact bike you are looking for a lot cheaper then buying a new one and adding the accessories you want.

Also, if you have a bike you want to get rid of, in AZ it's sometimes better to trade it in due to the fact it lowers the net taxable amount of the new bike.

So how ever much lower they give you for trade in (compared to selling it used) will usually (in my experience) be more than offset by the less taxes you pay.

That email the dealer sent you is just a starting point. It's up to you , now, to grind them down. He's just doing his job.

I think that's an email the OP probably received from the dealer.

Never heard a dealer refer to a "DRZ650". He should know what he's selling better than that. There's a dr650 for sale in another thread on here for 1800 I think.

Edit: yup. East of Phoenix thread. 1800.00

This gets better!

Ride Now in Peoria $8,456.98 OTD.

Bike $6,399 (full MSRP and Suzuki is currently giving $400 back which they plan to pocket)
Freight $497.63
Assembly $488.00
Dealer Titling/ Processing $349.95
Sales tax $598.15
Registration $122.25

Simply outrageous.
