watching this thread now as I am also headed west (to Flagstaff) later this month - the weekend of August 23-25 to be exact. I plan to rent or borrow a DS bike for the weekend and do some riding.

Just the thread I was looking for. The missus and I are headed in the same direction. Depart Alabama just before Labor Day and head West. The plan it to pour it on and circle into Vegas from the South. The only high point on the way out being the Mogollon Rim road.

After Vegas we will head out to the North Rim (Bar Ten, Toroweap) and up into Utah and over to Colorado. Hitting a lot of the same stuff as Red Bud. Maybe doing a little camping along the way.

End up on Colorado Springs and then back to the Great State of Alabama. Six days out, nine days in UT and CO. Five days back to AL.

An epic trip for us, maybe we will see you along the way. Look for a heavily loaded Tiger xc.

Wicked

we just got back from southern Utah, it was a fantastic ride. Coming in from California, we started from Cedar city, headed out on route 12 and did the Burr Trail which really was fun for a dirt road. We took the wrong turn towards route 24 since we were trying to make it to Bullfrog Basin but it was still fun through Torrey. We stopped for the night at the Aquarious hotel in Bicknell. Recommended if your heading west on the 24. Then we went through Fishlake national park. My friend had a Butler motorcycle map that had recommended roads on it. Very Handy. You might encounter thundershowers in the afternoon.
Cheers

I like Butler, great detail. I own the Master Collection.

Also, AAA has a great map...you don't have to be a member, they'll sell it to you. Many of NP's here in the west sell this map in their visitor centers.
