Great pic - I'd vote that for a cover shot!

Thanks a lot for your story. I read it all, and like many others, I think it has given me the itch to look for Ural in the classified websites.

I will try to force myself to finish current bike projects, but I am weak, and may cave in to temptation

RP - They've probably already found you by now anyway. But just in case, there's a couple who are making a documentary about riders & their dogs who travel in hacks. The name will be "Sit Stay Ride." Here's a link to their project.

Rest in peace Lola

Folks, I'm sorry to update this thread with bad news, but I like to think this story is a great way to keep a memory alive.

Tuesday (04/08/2014) I had to say goodbye to my friend of 12 years, very suddenly. What started as her not eating (unheard of) turned into a frenzied mass of emergency scans and x-rays. The result was startling. She was riddled with tumors, and one on her spleen had burst and was bleeding into her abdomen.

Faced with the prospect of putting her through $4K worth of very invasive surgery for a couple extra months, we chose to let her go out with the dignity she deserved.

With swollen, tearful eyes, Kait and I laid down on the floor with Lola and surrounded her with as much love as we could muster, and watched her pass.

As pet owners, you know its coming, but nothing can really prepare you for the loss. We gave each-other a really fantastic life, and I will always wish for another hour, day, or week. If I had waited a year for this sidecar ride, I wouldn't have all these amazing memories with my best friend.

I hope this whole ride encourages everyone to get up, get out and get going. Don't let your fears or worries hold you back, and go for the experience. If you can bring your fuzzy-buddy along, the whole experience is that much better.

I've been there too. A pretty wretched feeling.

She sure went out on top though - that ride was quite an adventure.

Imagine she's riding sidecar all the time now.
Without goggles, because there aren't bugs there.

Sad news, but your advice is excellent.
And the ride -and the report- was great, a fine memorial.

A libation to the dog.

Godzilla and I are very sorry to read this. I have had my share of great dogs, have one of them sitting beside me right now, and I still miss them all. Rest in peace Lola.

Oh RP, I'm so very, very sorry for your loss. She was such a noble lady and you allowed her dignity to the end. Not an easy decision but for the best I think.

Thank you all for your kind words; Hard to lose your best friend, but good to know that our little adventure together shared some of her awesomess with the world.

Thank you very much Jason! What a great way to honor her.
I made a donation to HSPPR myself from "Lola-bears" yesterday.

So sorry to hear about this RP. The thought of losing Bryson never crossed my mind until filming for Sit Stay Ride. Eric asked a question that really got me thinking in the days to follow. I can't quite imagine life without my canine companion, and I definitely can't imagine the pain you're going through right now.
