Fort Bragg Labor Day Dirt ADV KTM 990

Got out of the Bay Area with Paul R. Staged out of Fort Bragg which was nice and they of course have the North Coast brewing company ready to go.

525 miles total:

Hwy 1, Fort Bragg/Sherwood Road, 10 mile road, and every other dirt offspring we could get the big bikes on.

We did 101 to 128, to Flynn Creek, to HWY 1. Then ran Fort Bragg Sherwood road back to Willits which is about 40 miles of dirt. Then back to Fort Bragg on HWY 20 which is all twists. On the way back down HWY 1 the next day we did 10 mile road and hit some of the cool dirt paths down to the Garcia River.

All dirt doable on a big bike, but I had my Scorpions on which makes it very slippery in the soft pumice like dirt areas. Some of the video shows the big KTM ice skating sideways in short sections. That Pirelli front is just no good in anything but hardpack. Can't wait to trade them out for the Heidenau's.

Random dirt roads off Flynn Creek:

KTM 990 for me:

BMW F800 for Paul

Weather: upper 60's and perfect.

Gets dusty back here in the summer

A lot of sun/shade/sun/shade

Views are pretty awesome too

Fort Bragg - Sherwood Road

Diverse terrain - valleys, ridge tops, deep forests,

F800 Gettin some dirty

HWY 1 ain't the worst piece of pavement either..

Aside from three bridges that are now under construction and one-way, there was not much traffic in Sunday.

5 minutes and counting

Off of 10 mile road there are some cool little power line trails

some have gates

Some don't

This is my office - someday

This trail gets nasty fun with a huge hill climb up the other side

Where is my XR when I need it

miles of fun - never gets old.

Why does every good road seem to have one of these bastards at the end?

Garcia Creek

It was a fun twistie dirt road down into this valley

Following me

The water is quite nice

waterproof camera

there he is again

waterproof boots

Lots of good camping spots

Some Vids

Nice....

Lots of great back roads in the North Bay, but it's hard to find dirt roads that don't have a gate or aren't plastered with No Trespassing, Private Property and Private Road signs. If you haven't done it already, Novarro Ridge Rd, which goes off 128 just past Flynn Creek Rd is mostly dirt to Hwy 1.

I just put a TKC80 on the front of my Tiger. Ridden mostly on pavement so far where I like this tire a lot.... can't wait to see how it goes in the dirt...

Video Part II

FYI on the Contour Roam2 it would have been better for me to use the "Action HD" setting instead of the regular HD setting.

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.

Down Texas Way
