Sherando Lake Rally 2013 (Back in action!)

This has been my favorite rally every year since 2005 and I was disappointed last year when it was cancelled. Well, it is back, and I am going!

http://www-rbmwr-com.rmctools.com/?s...article_id=336

Who else is going?

Here are a fer photos from past Sherando Lake Rallys held by the Richmond BMW Riders:

Based at Sherando Lake at the beginning of the BRP, Sherando is a laid back and interesting rally, with no pesky vendors, but good food, good riding and people having fun at night. I am always at the top left corner of the loop, and we ARE the loud section (sometimes a bit too loud too late), but we always have a great time.

Come join us!

Jim

PS I'm donating these as door prizes:

Myself and 5 friends from Savannah will be attending. Drove past their sign on the BRP in 2011 on my way to the Finger Lakes Rally, decided I wanted to try this one since it was closer, looking forward to the area riding.

Look for me and a friend. I'll be on a yellow GS and he has a gray one.

Sounds like a great rally. Do they furnish fire wood, or do we have to chase down a wood vendor

I will be on the red Speed Triple, my son on a blue SV1000s

There's a really good guy who sells firewood and is right next to Gas station(Marathon now I think). It's a couple of miles towards Waynesboro from the Sherando entrance. He has a long paved driveway up to his house and there's a sign at the troad. It's easy to find and his prices are very fair. He might even deliver to Sherando. He did for me last year.

Thanks for the info. I am sure for a price we can get it delivered. I have been known to carry firewood on my bike

I'm lazy. I just pay for a few bundles at the general store when I pick up supplies.

My friend isn't showing, but a few others are. The weather looks pretty good now.

I'm looking forward to seeing some ADV peeps! I'll bring a 12 pack and some rum, make sure you guys bring something for yourselves!

Jim

PS I have to work half a day, so I will be there around 4-5.

I'm underway first thing in the morning. Looking forward to this rally, been meaning to go to one for a number of years.

I know a few other peeps from Hampton Roads will be there also.

Cheers

Had fun as always!

Sherando lower lake in the morning.

Hungry bear! I saw its shadow as it ran past my tent when the guy scared it away!

Upper Sherando Lake.

What the heck is a "Sudden Curve"?

Blue Ridge Parkway.

My bike with the Kirk Bags on it.

Not a lot of miles, but a lot of fun!

Eek Bear sighting

On Saturday morning while still dark I walked down the hill to the meadow loop campsite area for a shower. On the way back to the tent, in the grey dawn light, just past the maintence area driveway, a large adult black bear walked out of the woods about 50 feet ahead. It stopped and looked at me for about 3 seconds . Then it walked across the road into the upper lake section and disappeared.

So did you need another shower?

Seems they have been having bear issues lately, though there have always been a few around.
