Just found this.

Reliving my trip last year to Inuvik. Man I loved the Dempster.

Great stuff brother.... Did this ride in 2010 with Parepin then hopped over to the Dalton.
I much prefered the Dempster!

Thanx for putting this up for us all.

Day 8

It cooled off to about 4C overnight, and I finished up the tires, doing the rear after a bowl of oatmeal.

I used one of my straps to keep the spacers in place, and free of dirt.

Time to get rolling! I head into Dawson for food, cotter pins, and a fishing licence. This place beats Subway any day!!!

What a cool town! I wish I could spend more time here. I'll have to come back and explore some more on the way back. I've wasted enough time today...

Dempster Mile 0

Aah, fresh knobs! The 606's feel great. I should have no problems with these tires! The bike feels like it gained 5 horsepower and is much more balanced now without the weight of the tires on top. Here we go, the start of the Dempster!

It doesn't take long to become spectacular.

It 's Absolutely stunning! I take a break here, and finish off my 2 lb sub. There is a sign warning of wild horses. As hard as I look I see no wildlife.

I'm surprised to see that there is any kind of grubs at all in the permafrost, but I found this little guy.

I'd love to just go for a long hike out here. It's like nothing I've ever seen! It could be Mongolia for all I know.

A pond, still nearly frozen over.

I'm taking my time riding through the Tombstone mountains. They are amazingly beautiful! I could have spent a lot longer out here. Everytime I stop to take a photograph and someone sees me stopped, they slow down, and give a thumbs up to ask if I'm OK. I give the thumbs up back, to say "Just taking photos"! It seems it is the way out here. There is a car every hour or so, so it's real nice knowing that people look out for each other in that way. It is a long way from help if there's trouble.

It goes on for hours...

Just take a walk! How far to the next road?

I saw these two guys in Dawson filling up, just before hitting the Dempster. They rode all the way from Mexico! If only I spoke Spanish. We communicated as best we could. It's amazing to see how far people come to ride here.

The Olgilvie River. Wish I had time to fish!

I find a nice pull off, and take a break...And what a spot I found!! It's a different world out here!

Time to get motoring.Conservatively of course!!! I need to get to Eagle Plains, and it will take all of the gas I can carry! It's a long, long road!

Wow!

Some of those pictures made me think of the Group of Seven paintings.

Just found your report , loving it . I had a narrow window in 2010 and over did it on my first day out . Made it to Blue River and grabbed a cheap motel (rode 13 hours and about 550 miles) . Next morning my bad shoulder and hip were killing me along with the fact I altered my planned route to ride with a group of other ADV riders . I was a full day off of my planned route and didn't want to jeopardize a planned 3 week motor home trip , so had to abort . Hopefully I retire next year and can try again . Great pictures ! I am thinking my WeeStrom with Anakee 3 s will eat the miles (kilometers) well . I will be following along , thanks for the work on the RR .

Back on the road I go. Damn it's a long haul, but it is a fast road! Some places are like pavement! I was expecting hay rows of gravel! You want to keep your eyes on the road, because there are a few heaves and thicker gravelly spots, but for the most part, 90 kph feels fine.

Miles and miles of this....

IMG_1465

IMG_1466

It's starting to feel like this! The sun is at eye level for hours.. It is well after 9 O'clock. I take two rows of electrical tape to the top of my visor to keep from going blind....

"AIRSTRIP NO STOPPING OR PARKING"

IMG_1471

Gotta find a place to stop, but there isn't any!! Nowhere to pull off at all. It's 15 feet of base dumped onto tundra! there are few opportunities to get off of this road.

IMG_1472

Well, it's 10:45, the sun still sits low in the sky, not really going down, but circling. I'm loving this about the north! You can ride all night long....If you have gas.....Eagle Plains closed at 10:00,so I have to find a spot now. Still nowhere to pull off.....Besides, Where would I pitch a tent???

IMG_1482

Then I found this, 10 or so kms past Eagle Plains. Just a little pull off by a bridge, that happens to have a spot or two for a tent! Turns out this was real near the Mad Trapper incident of the 30's.

IMG_1486

This will do fine for the night, if night ever comes...Here we are at 1:30 AM.

IMG_1487

It feels kind of spooky out here. Not sure why...Haven't seen any bears yet, but this looks like wolf country to me....I eat some freeze dried food, and sink my garbage under a rock in the river for the night. I am NOT bringing food garbage NEAR my tent!!!! I can get rid of it in the morning. I stored my food in a pumphouse for the night...The trees are not tall enough to hang a bag from here!!!

Great write up G.

I'm enjoying all the pics. The wilderness goes on and on up there.

Looking forward to the rest of the RR.
