Day 5: Pictou - Meat Cove

and finally: CABOT TRAIL!

as further north we got the weather got more and more "drizzly"... so the pics are just not as vibrant. Still amazing landscape

almost in Meat Cove - north of the Cabot Trail

almost there....

EUREKA!!!!

but it was very very windy... and steady rain blowing sidewards. The few tents where either tight to cars or hunkered down (this poor guy was drying everything he owned the next morning)

There was no way we could have made a fire, or comfortable sit outside. Solution? Rent the last cabin available!

and let me tell you - it was a very wise decision

walked up the the "Chowder Hut" and had treated ourself with some excellent mussels

I like the build shell flowers - I know, it's odd (for me)

Later the rain came down hard and the wind really picked up... I'm glad I listened to my hubby and went for the cabin.

Two possible responses:

1. She's German.

2. That's what she says to Hunter all the time.

Day 6 - continued

one of the few over the shoulder shots that actually turned out

my moose pic of the day - yes you guessed right: NO DAMN MOOSE ANYWHERE!!!!!

I had pre-booked a hotel for this one night - so we had to cross back via the island. Great reason to hit some gravel again

heading right into the rain

wrong road.... bummer, that could have been fun w/o all that luggage

only had the last few miles of rain

the forecast was bad, very bad... time to reconsider the route - or not

The elusive Moose

Thanks for the great ride report, Silke. Love the Cabot Trail, Maine, NB, ...

Beachbilly and I hope to ride the Maritimes before too long ... maybe next year. ("Beachbilly" --- Suzanne now has an ADV handle cuz you beat me up about it last Fall. )

Many years ago we went canoe camping into the interior of Algonquin Park and searched vainly for the elusive Moose. Only to find them by the dozens along the main highway through the park after we came out.

By the way, in all the years of my misspent youth PM (pre-moto), I spent a lot of time hiking and canoeing the backwoods of Maine.

I have only ever seen three moose.

One was dead and partially floating in a river. That one was a twofer - a Bald Eagle was having lunch on the flank that was above water.

Two were a cow and her calf, I'd managed to get between them just at a bend in the river. I have never seen anything that large and ungainly move so fast. I have also never moved as fast in a canoe as I did in that moment.

Day 7 Cape Breton - New Brunswick

The rain came down hard when we left Cape Breton. The weather system came from the south, so we thought we may get lucky by heading west as quick as possible an may get lucky and get out of it....

We decide to go for it and said good bye to our Swiss-German motel owner.
She was quiet happy to speak German to me - actually a little bit to happy: I now know everything about her family back home .

All prepped:

just a few drive by shots on this leg of the trip due to weather, but at least the rain eased up after a few hours of down-pour (I still feel sorry for "flooding" the little diner while having lunch )

leaving Nova Scotia

We made it to Indian Point and Found another small Motel to spend the night (being soaked for most of the day it seemed the best thing to do). Hunter checked for vacany and came back out: "they have room - go and check-in in German"

Another german immigrant motel owner

Indian Point

sad blinker - it just fell off while riding, after the horn fell off the day before
