If you want to be number 1, you will need to get past the current plate holder.
Easy as...

I think you've about covered it Sylvia... Todd, Jake, Rod or Shane (in that order is prolly how I'd pick 'em). The # 1 plate will mpost likely fall to one of these four from either the GHR Honda team or The Yamaha Desert team.

Matt Fish on the KTM is also a solid top three contender... but i note he is not on the CPW squad?

Hello Sylvia, Troy & John

Really looking forward to the photo fest once again!

Interesting to see the brothers are still using the bar mounted road books.

Troy, seeing as you are in this year, I was expecting you be bloody first mate !?

I'm just sorry to see there aren't any South African participants. The exchange rate back home probably got a lot to do with it; or maybe they're just not up to it...

PS. John, did you get a letter from the ASO?

Sylvia awesome pics and i am looking forward to seeing more.

Bluebull2007 asked me some questions about my riding background and training so here it goes.

I started riding when i was 22, instantly hooked earlier but thats when i bought my first dirt bike. I started out in the desert of southern california and then local motocross races. I did that off and on as work permitted with not a lot of wins, but a lot of fun. I have always been a racing fanatic and got exposed to dakar rally coverage while traveling around europe in my early twenties. I could not believe those dakar guys skill, will, and determination. I really wanted to get into that style of racing but being an american trying to race oversees i couldnt afford it, couldnt take time off work, couldn't ....... You get the picture excuses and problems.

all the while in the back of my head i had a dream to compete in an international rally but shelved it. until recently, i realized if a rally was going to happen i had to take the bull by the horns. I signed up for the norra mexico 1000 rally, and make a lot of mistakes. i teamed up with a great group of guys in mexico that was held together by tim morton (baja bound, incredible dirt bike tour group that tours mexico). i loved it and learned from it. i needed more training so i went out and trained with jimmy lewis. wow, what a great guy and teacher.

fast forward to now, 37 years old, a 10 month old baby, married, and a mortgage. Still with that dream, i found out about the Australia Safari Rally. It matched up perfectly for a rally that i could take my family on so they could see why i love rally so much. my wife and i are avid travelers and we said even with a baby we would still do the things that make us happy, just a little different. So here we go, ready to learn, experience, meet new people, and have fun with a great rally. Cheers, ryan and family.

G'day Ryan. Be great to have you over here. You'll have to sort out the name of the event though - The "Australasian Safari". (The "Asian" element was added a few years ago to recognise the huge sponsorship of the event by "Tourism WA" and "Eventscorp" that target the Asian tourism market. There would absolutely not be an event without their sponsorship). Keep the sponsors happy and call it the Australasian Safari.
Thanks for sharing your background. It's a great story and inspirational to many I'm sure.

Hiya Niel.
"What you talkin 'bout Willis?" Glen Grundy and Garth Roberts are both entered from South Africa.
Yes, I did get a letter from the ASO and preparations are well underway. You been under one of those rocks you're supposed to dig out of the ground and crush?. Check out HERE in the New Zealand section

I guess I have been out of it, sorry for all the errors!

I just saw SA in the entry list and thought South Australia, not South Africa. Never looked at all the names!

Cheers for the link.

Hi John,
i have been on the prowl so hope to have a few pics. See you soon mate.

.....

With a bit over 1 week to go, the 2013 Australasian Safari this year will mainly be a local contest.

I thought I would give the inmates here a very selective overview of the Safari.
Who is a real chance and who is up just for the adventure.

This is a bit of a task, and am hoping for some support from Troy and others to fill in the spaces. Troy is the “Safari Brains Trust” so ask away with any questions.
I am doing a 4036K drive on Friday so will be out of the conversation for a few days.

Starting with the team to beat, based on past and current performance. GHR Honda (Glen Hoffman Racing). Riders Jake and Todd Smith are team mates in arguably Australia's best off road racing team. I recently spent a day with Glen and the team, with the bikes sticker-d up on a shakedown ride.

From Left to Right.
Jake Smith, Simon Wade, (mechanic extraordinare') Glen Hoffmann (GHR team boss) Todd Smith.

Troy..
