Port Jervis to Granton

The approach from the southeast starts in Port Jervis, paralleling the river in the Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River National Park. The first section includes the iconic scenic twisties of Hawk Nest, and stays close to the river until Lackawaxen, where we cross Roebling's aquaduct, and take the Masthope Plank Road through PA state game lands. At Narrowsburg, we start following the back river road with several dirt sections including one section between Kellam's Bridge and Equinunk which is best described as very seasonal. Between Equinunk and Hancock, we take a couple detours for good dirt on Dillontown Road and Stockport Road. For diversity we also ride the old O & W railroad bed. Once in Hancock we head up the hill on Sands Creek Road, then ride around Cannonsville Reservoir.

Color codings
Red = Dirt
Black = ordinary blacktop or chip seal
Blue = Paved but scenic, interesting, or twisty. (this is pretty subjective, but the blue roads make me happier than the black roads).
Green = Dirt sections that are not maintained.

All of my tracks are now color coded and packed into a MapViewer at this URL

http://108.161.133.196/CatskillRides.jar

You will need Java, the viewer is a signed jar file that is executable. It supports zoom via the slider or a mouse scroll wheel, dragging with a mouse, and selection of tracks via buttons on the bottom pane.

Thanks a million for taking the time to post all this. What do the color codings on the routes depict?

Cobleskill to Beerston

Schoharie County to the north is rich in dual sport roads. This route starts in Cobleskill, goes up over the hills for a long dirt section on Patria Road, picks up several state forest roads on the way to Stamford, where it continues on parts of the Catskill Turnpike, then hops back over the hill to the valley of the west branch terminating near the end of the Cannonsville Reservoir.

Lenox To Hale Eddy

This route starts from I81 near Lenox, winds through scenic terrain near Elk Mountain, visits a hatchery, then picks up the old Stockport Turnpike, then finishes winding around the main branch of the Delaware, the east branch and the west branch. At the end is the River Run restaurant, which has surprisingly good food for a rural restaurant. I am posting this from memory with preparation for spring, I might not have all of the dirt sections marked accurately.

Revised April 7, 2014

I updated the ToHaleEddy map to more accurately show the dirt sections. I also rerouted around Memorial Links Rd and the O&W ATV trail east of Union Dale as they are "closed".

I just wanted to say thanks for these.

I'm kind of new to dual-sport riding, but my family has a place in White Sulpher Springs (between Livingston Manor and Liberty in Sullivan Cty) and I went to college in Oneonta. My roommates and I spent a lot of time exploring between Walton, Delhi, Deposit, and north towards Cortland, but that was 20 some-odd years ago already. I would love to explore some of these routes when I get a chance. Next time I'm heading up towards the Finger Lakes, I'm going to try your Beerston to Ithaca route!
