One for dirt, and one for even MORE dirt.

Actually, I lowered my '03 and was riding it out to CO to stage it at a friend's, so that she can get experience riding dirt, and so that I would have a bike out west to ride.

The '13 is going to get ridden around here in the southeast until this summer, then I'll swap them after I do a ride with a bunch of friends out west. I plan to ride out to CO, ride the divide, WTAT, the passes, or the canyons, then bring the '03 home while the '13 stays out west.

Both bikes will be set up to handle the sand around here, and the rocks out west, while still being comfortable enough for me to run slab all day.

Have you not perused the local Kawasaki emporium? Some big fairings on the new KLR's.
I have not. I prefer getting beaten around by the wind, having my butt ground into hamburger before I even leave the driveway, and constantly having to look for fuel. Remember now, I attended the University of Sado-MasoChism for 8yrs, where "Muscles Are Required, but Intelligence is Not Essential".

Should I have gotten 2 TE450s for slab trips instead?

Did 930 miles in 19 1/2 hours coming home from Deadhorse last July - that's the most miles I did without resting but on average we was doing 400 to 600 mile days - If I ever do it again I well not do that kind of mileage again.

That 1000 Strom your looking at will feel like a turbine after riding a DR or KLR around, the Strom is geared for the autobahn and pulls the tall gearing easily.

Cool,I was thinking going 1 down on the counter sprocket, seems that helps make the 1000's 6th hole more spot on.

When I make a long trip on my KLR people often ask me where I've been and where I'm going, when I see that funny look in their eyes I say my hobby is making long trips on uncomfortable bikes,I usually get a good chuckle out of them.

folks don;t understand us. I mention I did a coast to coast trip on my KLR and to get a boring superslab part out of the way one day I did 912 miles. I'm not sure if the looks I get are disbelief or they're wondering if I'm crazy

I think what ever you ride, you get used to it. Your body settles in and you can go all day.

And really, who cares if somebody does a 400 mile day on a Goldwing?
All they have to worry about is if they can hear the stereo.

I snicker when a guy on a Harley pulls up and his pipes are cackling, the motor is shacking all over and some guy on his stereo is belting out"I'm proud to be an American" whoops back to high mile days on a KLR

Leavenworth to San Diego with a couple of naps along the way. Left at 10 in the morning and got to SD at about 3PM the next day. Was not fun. Fun days are about 300 miles.
