Yup!

I know my riding skills limit and BB is over my pay grade. I mean shoot I dropped it in a parking area and broke the clutch lever for cryin out loud.

My goal this week was to see some amazing things from the back of a motorcycle with people I like to ride with and get home with as little drama as possible.

Mission accomplished!!

John

Well there was that little bit of drama I wasn't going to mention it unless you did. That cop was amazing. I asked him if a civilian could buy his little tool and he sad it was illegal but yes you could buy them

There are many places over my pay grade, too. It's good to know them. Heck, I dropped my KTM in the parking lot just last week.

Immogene Pass

After leaving Blackbear behind, I felt a great releif! I was very glad it was over!!
Gene lead us through the town of Telluride. It is a very beautiful town with very nice well groomed yards. We climb higher and higher out of town. Before you know it, we are almost above the treeline.

It was hard to beleive that we had only minutes ealier came down this!

Picture time!!

On up we go!!
Hey John! does your back tire look low!!?? Just kidding!....

Near the treeline, we ride past an old mining encampment.

There were several "lines" to take up this section of the trail....Gene, Ron, and John took the WRONG one! It was very steep with baby head rocks knee deep. It took all of them pushing and pulling to get the bikes up. Ron told me to "go around" Much easier the path they had took was just an old wash or something. the real trail was just out of sight behind the abandoned buildings. Whoops....
On up the trail...

And to the summit!

All week we had been chased by rain clouds. When they rolled in, we would roll out in the other direction. It had worked fine all week. While we were getting our summit pictures, another set of clouds rolled in, complete with lightning! The summit was NOT where we wanted to be in a lightning storm! However, when the clouds neared....it was snow!! pretty cool!

For those of you who have not been here, there is an old mail box at the summit. Inside is notes and ledgers from travelers past. The only thing we had to write on was a J.B. weld package that I had in my tool kit. We left our names and cities in the box. Pretty neat! This will always be a "special" place for us all now Gene. Thanks for sharing.

The veiw of the way we came up...

Now, down the other side^^^^........

signs of life ...

The trip down off Immogene was pretty uneventful. We all spread out and took our time. Soaking in the final leg of our trip. Nobody wanted it to end. Gene got "confused" on the way down, and we ended up on a road he had not been on before. It's all part of the adventure!
We came out in Ourey and the weather was looking rough (rain) to the North. We decided it was best to skip the planned meal in town and hi tail it back to the Brownbear Cafe in Silverton. We stopped on 550 for the million Dollar Highway pictures...

Some peaple come to this spot and think this is the best it gets......We Know better!!!
Thank you Gene and the MTF for guiding us around the Rockies!!

Heading Home

Is that Coffee I smell?
It must be 5:30!!

We wake to the smell of fresh brewed, John's store bought coffee.
Outside it was

We had packed for cold weather, and on most days it was just cool. (mid 40's)
This morning it was jst down right COLD!! Ron had packed up his camping gear the night before so he could get an early start back to Minn a sota Ay! He really appriciated the gas heater in the motel room. As he had spend all week in his tent through all of the cool nights and multiple rains.

John mounted up his freshly J.B welded and ductaped wind sheild for the ride back to Canon City.

And we said our fairwells to the rest of the gang.....
Gene, Ron, John and myself decided to walk up to the Brownbear Cafe for one last breakfast. If you go there, try the breakfast barritos...You won't leave hungry!!! They are HUGE!!!

We leave the brownbear Cafe and walk down the sidestreet where Gene had "squatted" all week.

This was a dirt road with not a car in sight. As we are walking side by side, Gene said it reminded him of a old Western Movie.....

My kind of town...

We Thanked Gene again for being our fearless leader, warmed up the 2 650's and headed back to the truck in Canon City. The tempature went from a cold low 40's up to mid 80's in the few hours ride. It was very hard to dress for.
After loading the bikes in the truck we head out for the FABULOUS trip across Kansas

This marked the end of our Great ride In the Silveton Colorado area. Thank you to everyone who put this ride together. I can't wait to go back!

Memories!

Great report, brought back lots of them!

I've been over Blackbear three times, twice on a XR350 and once on a BMW R100GSPD. The PD was a bit of a handful on the steps but I just idled down it whilst dog paddleing. I have a photo on my desk of the PD and I at the bottom of the steps, proud to be there and alive!

Thanks again for all the good photos and fun dialog!
