"Will the event provide rescue? Or is every man/woman/child for themselves out in the desert? I guess what I'm asking is what survival gear do you bring in case of being stranded and need to survive overnights in the desert."

"D37 dual sport has sweep riders and 4x4’s but they are not going to take your broken bike to your truck or wherever that’s up to you and your ride buddy. They will call in a medevac if you are injured."

Actually, District 37 has a 4x4 sweep crew that WILL pick up your bike and take it to the nearest highway for you if you break down. It's up to you to have your pit crew pick it up from there. If you have no pit crew, then make sure you have NO TOW from your AMA card or have a AAA card with the motorcycle pickup (the most expensive option), then they can pick up your bike and take it to the nearest town, perhaps Palmdale, Barstow, Vegas... you get the idea.

There was a rider several years ago that DID spend the night out in the desert. If my memory serves me correctly, he got separated from his buddy, got off course, ran out of gas, and when it got dark started walking toward some lights. He didn't realize that in the desert those lights were about 20 miles away. The next morning he found a highway or somehow got back and found us. His bike was somehow found too.

Last year, it took the 4X4 sweep crew until 3 a.m. the first day to pick up everyone. That was extremely unusual. The sweep riders came across riders who said, "I can't ride my bike any farther in the sand." They were told to man up, get on their bike, and ride it out. What were the sweep riders supposed to do? Carry their bikes out on their shoulders, for Pete's sake?

So anyway, at least carry a two-man space blanket, because you want it big enough to wrap around you. And enough protein bars to last into the night. Don't start a fire in Red Rock Canyon. Use your head! If it's very windy, be careful about starting a fire in the desert; it can blow away and spread.

I'm the one who wrote that looong list. You don't have to carry everything on it. But if you break down and are stuck out there alone, you'll be glad if you have a spare cell phone battery and spare flashlight batteries. Extra food will come in handy as will those tools if you break down.

Carry the list of District 37 emergency names of who to call and their cell phone numbers. They are posted now in the rider packet. See the rider instructions here:

Good luck!

Nope, but do you want me to point out where Crazy Horse III is in that picture?
