The locals I have met call it the private dragon because it doesn't get much traffic and is just about as twisty as the real thing. It does however turn to gravel at the NC state line from TN and winds down to this powerhouse very close to I 40

About 1 mile of gravel if you ride in via NC 215 about 3 miles of gravel if you ride in via US 276. So about 4 miles of gravel if you ride down the whole road.
I don't know about getting there without damaging your bike someone else will have to answer that. My NT700V is around 600 pounds and I've never damaged my bike on that road but i've never rode 2 up down that road.
