Why We Ride Movie

Did a search for a thread about the movie and couldn't find one.
Watched the movie for the first time tonight. VERY COOL. (bought the DVD)

Few threads scattered through the site (quite a few are in regionals)
I think this is the latest one: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=934720

As an fyi, you'll find searching easier if you do it outside of the forum (i.e. google). Set up your search as something like: "why we ride" site:advrider.com

Why We Ride was OK, I still prefer / love: On Any Sunday (1971).

Maybe 'cause I was a senior in high school in '71-'72. . . .

Kenny Roberts is cool, but not the same cool as Steve McQueen.

the history bits were interesting, but overall, it was a bit too drenched in sentimentality (in a movie titled "why we ride"? gasp!) to keep me interested. too much time was spent on heart-string tugging, and not enough time was spent on the bikes. (the bikes are why *i* ride, after all.)

I saw it last year and thought it was good. I think it does an admirable job of giving non-riders a different look at riding that goes way past the popular impression of riding. Unfortunately the movie is marketed to riders rather than non-riders, minimizing the effect of one of it's stronger attributes.

On Any Sunday is kind of dated, but I loved it.

I've seen (own) Why we ride 1 and 2. They are ok, at best. My favorite motorcycle movies are actually Long Way Round, and Long Way down. Sure they had chase trucks, but what adventures!
If ya haven't seen them, They are well worth the time.

Haven't seen why we ride. Never saw any of the long way flicks and after reading this...

I'm sure they would be disappointing.

That is a GREAT RR, but I doubt the Long Way Round/Down would dissapoint. Looks like they cover alot of the same area, and it is fairly comical. Anyways, it's entertaining to watch while I wait out the long WI winter.

I figured you for an Al Pachino lover?

ON ANY SUNDAY was a film about motorcycles. In this country it did quite a lot for the motorcycling community in that it illlustrated to the public at large that many bikers were normal people, families, weekend racers, enthusiasts and not beer swilling trouble makers.
Your eloquent review aside, it's the favorite biker film of the majority of the people on this board if for anything else because of how much it contributed to the motorcycle industry as a whole.
