Did you get a chance to do the whole loop and come down South Park and if so, what were the conditions like?

Looks like Panamint Springs is an ideal place to stage rides from for the Ballarat area and Saline Valley. Can't wait to go back.

I've heard it's a tough slog right now, but don't have first hand knowledge. After this weekend there will probably be a bunch of reports coming in from the noobs ride...

I have 40 riders on my Death Valley 350 that will try Hunter Mt. Sunday.

No one has enough gas to go back to Teakettle and take Lippencott if they can't get through.

Jerry,

River Rat mentioned a few pages back that it was snowed in pretty bad. There is a lot more snow in the high country this year than the last few.

See you out there.

Does a Death Valley 350 require a permit with the Park Service? That'd be a hassle to just go for a ride.

Even in reference to my GSA on Echo canyon, "Oh, you'll be fine"

Absolutly! Any group of over 20 motorcycles needs a permit and $1,000,000 of liability insurance! Been to court several times!

DV Tire recommendations

Jumping in here to ask advice from you Death Valley experts. planning my first motorcycle trip out to DV in mid-april. I just put Avon Distancias (rear) and gripster (front) on my XR650L, for I had several slab trips in the works.

I am planning a 2-3 day DV trip, likely based out of Panamint Springs, and do days trips (Golar Wash, Saline/racetrack, etc). Should I put knobbies back on, or do you think the Avon's will be ok? Sounds like some of the routes are quite muddy right now... ? any thought/tips appreciated - thanks

It all depends on how and where you ride. I found a knob up front and a Tourance rear worked pretty well in DV even on my GSA, but then again I subscribe to the theory that traction is overrated. You will probably enjoy both knobs more though and honestly there are several roads I wouldn't take without a knob rear.

Cheers!
