South pass was clear a week ago. Dry, no ice or mud.

That is good to hear as I am planning a ride over South Pass sometime in the next 4 or 5 weeks.

Any word on North Pass and Cerro Gordo, especially the salt tram? Cerro Gordo is over 8,000 ft and I'd like to ride up and over to Saline Valley Road.

Also, any word on any ice on Pleasant Canyon and South Park loop out of Ballarat?

Thanks for the updates.

Forget about Cerro Gordo for at least a two more months.

This was about two weeks ago heading from South Pass. I was still quite a ways from Cerro Gordo and it became very icy.

South Park was a no go for me 1.5 weeks ago also. Thick ice just a little past the bridge.

Dirty:

Thanks for the pics and update. I rode my local foothills last Sunday in 68 degree weather so I guess I'll stay on the west side of the Sierra Nevada's for now.

The storm coming through Central California today is headed for Eureka Dunes and North Pass and will likely add more snow to that area.

South pass is dry except for a water crossing. That may change if a storm comes in tonight.

Hopefully southpark will clear up for n00bs!

we were there 2 weeks ago,
south pass is fine, north pass - couldn't get through with motorcycle.
4x4 trucks were ok. Lots of snow on the pass. Compacted by may truck going by - couldn't get traction on the bikes.

I will be riding the north part of DV the weekend of 3/18/11 so I'm very interested in South Pass/North Pass, Lippencott, Steele Pass, Hunter Mtn road, Titus Canyon and Pleasant Canyon/South Park.

I'm hoping Titus will be open since there isn't suppose to be any storms between now and then except some possible rain next Wednesday.

The temps look to be in the 70's for that weekend so I'm wondering if the ice has melted on South Park and how fast the snow is melting on North Pass.

Steele Pass and Lippencott should be OK unless there are washouts on Lippencott.

Another group of my friends will also be riding that weekend but will ride Mengle, Echo and Titus.

Any updates are appreciated.

Over president's day weekend, north pass was not good easily - meaning you can push for 3h - to get through...

south pass was fine,

Steel and lippencot was fine, we did it.

We tried hunter's and we go to too much snow and at that point we had enough snow for the weekend.... so we turned back.

North pass on the northern end on president's day weekend, about 2 miles from the pass... we turned around..

We were in DV last week (Feb.26-March 2). Titus Canyon was still closed, but I suspect that it will be open by the time you are there. You'll just need to check first.

Titus is looking good. Check out the DV morning report. It's updated each morning:

Thanks for the updates. I check the DV morning report but find the riders on this forum provide much more "real life" experience and information than the park service even though their information is also helpful, especially regarding road closures.

I enjoy the ride to Leadville almost more than the ride through Titus Canyon. If Titus is closed, is the road to Leadville also closed? I'm not sure exactly where they close the gate.

I wouldn't mind riding to Leadville even if I can't go through to Titus Canyon.

Thanks again. I will be watching this thread all this week and next looking for any and all updates because I haven't finalized my routes yet.
