Anyone know if it snowed in Butte Valley below Mengel Pass? I'm guessing not, but did see the previous comment about snow around 4,000 ft.

Also, does anyone know the current condition of Trail Canyon? The DVNP website says "washed out", but doesn't provide further details.

Golar is a freeway after the grader came through...The NPS ruined it.

Butte Valley generally only gets snow in the hills, not on the desert floor. I doubt that the approach to Mengel Pass would have any snow.

Trail Canyon got hammered after last years major storm. If you haven't rode it before you may have a hard time even recognizing the road. A jeeper friend went up it recently to try to lay down new tracks. The wash out begins after mile 6, look for rock cairns to follow the road. You can make it to the mining camps if you're determined.

That is a fun dirt road that goes past the Hard Luck Mine Castle. Want to ride it the next trip out.

Gotta go back to Hard Luck Mine..

Before I realized the KTM 990 is the best.

That is what Steele Pass looks like for the first 10 miles heading north from Warm Springs Hot Tubs as of last October.

I'd like to see some pics of what it looks like now. There were many parts where no trail was visible at all.

As of last Sunday - it looks the same... trail is more visible but rock and washes are the same.

Steelpass road close to eureka dunes - Soft sand... really soft.

South pass, biggest wash out were fixed - still lots of washboard and rock but nothing "technical" as such

Christian, you should have come on my ride, much less work and fun single tracks.

Others on the ride preferred to do our own camping trip.
Different adventures... one day

Thanks for the updates. Echo steps are a challenge for me going up or down. It is one of those sections where you just have to commit and go for it which is easier said than done. Hesitation is the enemy.
