Dante's View road and the Racetrack road are now open. Anyone ride DV this past weekend?

I rode in the Spangler Hills area and the weather was perfect. There was a National Hare and Hound Race while I was there and it was fun to watch the racers ride down "The Royal Flush". There are some racers with amazing riding skills.

I checked on motel availability at Stovepipe Wells now through the end of March and every weekend is booked and Furnace Creek is much more expensive.

I then checked on camp ground availability and it is the same situation. I guess I have never stayed in DV during Feb or March. Is this when everyone goes to DV?

It is looking like I will have to spend the night outside DV if I want to ride there in late Feb. or March.

Have any of you stayed in the Mesquite Campground near Scottys Castle?

Jim,

Have you checked Panamint Springs? Its private so it doesn't show up on the park website, but it is inside the park boundaries. http://www.deathvalley.com/psr/ I've stayed there 4-5 times. They've got campsites and a few rooms.

That where the ADV nOOb ride is in late March.

Just got back from Death Valley, snow, just past the cabin you can stay at on the right, up Pleasant cyn. Tried South park, snow level at upper spring just past bridge. Both impassable in Teryx. Goler wash open past Mengel pass into Death Valley, lots of water. Had a blast

My brother in law has a Rhino and I have been trying to get him to stage in Ballarat and ride South Park and Goler. I know you have to be street legal to ride in DV but can you do the South Park loop and be legal for the whole loop? I can't remember if this loop goes into DV or not.

My Teryx has an Az plate, don't think it means much in Ca. It is doable, We didn't see any BLM all weekend. The DV sign only shows a picture of a quad with red line through it, sidebysides must be ok.......right

I just talked with the Inyo County Road Maint. department in Independence. They are the ones who grade the roads in Saline Valley including North and South Pass.

They said there were 5' snow drifts still on South Pass and they begin grading the roads when the snow melts, usually mid March but this year they have received much more snow than normal.

She also said there have been recent reports of multiple vehicles stranded on Steele Pass but she didn't have any details or know if they are still there.

Their office is open from 8-5 Mon-Fri so if you want to get the latest info on current dirt road conditions in Saline Valley, call 760-878-0202.
