Even with the realignment, there are still a couple of (shorter) silt sections (dependent on how wet/dry it has been) that require some attention.

This should not be a major problem for inexperienced riders, and no one should be scared off by this. As long as folks are aware of the silt beds (located in Hidden Valley between Teakettle and Hunter Mountain for those who don't know) they can slow down and take it easy through those sections. The real problems are when someone tries to blast through them like they are a sand pit - that usually results in a cloud of dust and a rider down in the silt.

OK OK I Concede...

Thought it was common knowledge.

Regardless I will be passing through weekend prior to the N00B rally and will send back pics. Since I will be 2 up it might be good ones...

I rode Saline Valley, Hunter Mountain, TeaKettle Junction, Racetrack road to Racetrack then to UbeHebe on Saturday.

If there were siltbed(s) I didn't notice, and they're typically my Kryptonite. Racetrack Road was really choppy.

Bike got dusty, but that's all.

I have only ridden through the silt a few times. The last time was a few years ago so I would be interested in seeing what it looks like now and pics of the "reroute" intersection would be great. I wasn't aware there were two routes through or around that silt section. I have always ridden through it on a light Dual Sport Bike but would think twice before riding it on a big adventure bike.

Absolutely.

I'm in the middle of setting up a DR650 for a 2,500 mile adventure ride in June so a trip to DV would be great to see how that extra 100 lbs. (more than my KTM 500EXC) will work on some of the more challenging sections and silt.

I'm taking Adventure Kitty in the morning. I'm thinking of going in from Big Pine, down to Racetrack (never been), back to Ubehebe, then to Furnace Creek. Taking the R100GS/PD, TKC80 tires and not wanting anything but, hard, graded and maybe washboard roads. Am I in for any surprises?

What's your miles per tank on that Beemer? I estimate that route 180 miles plus goofing around. That's to Furnace Creek.

Racetrack Road could have sharp rocks and be tough on your wheels. Anything below 42 MPH seems to rattle my teeth on the washboard road.

Nine gallons. It's done 400 miles on the road, less off road but, most of that should be easy going. 13 years ago, it did the Saline Valley route up to the same loop (around to Ubehebe).

Damn, I can't believe I haven't been up there in 13 years. I'm getting old.

Yeah, I'm not going to haul ass on the washboard specifically because of the rocks I've read about. I don't want any rim damage. They're aired up to max so I don't pinch a tire.

The grading on Saline Valley road moved most of the rocks offtl the road. Watch out for the holes left from the big rocks that got moved.

From Ubehehe it is very wasboarded due to the Big Pink Jeep tours.

Oh well, no report from me. The BMW shit the transmission between Rosamond and Mojave. That's the second one in 25K miles. Taking the ZX11 out there tomorrow but, that will all be road miles. Thanks for the tips guys!

Per the Ranger in Furnace Creek this afternoon: Titus should be open by Tuesday.

The desert is just starting to bloom, it should explode this week out there.
