Well, since you put it like that....

I could've sworn it was a place further south and east.

No need for a wager. I owe you a drink!

Any further south or east woulda been outside the perimeter.

Conspiracies are for the birds.

Finally! FYI the old location was actually known as the Goodyear Auxiliary Airfield before becoming Gila River Memorial. A nod to my west side riders as I moved the tag further east :)

Here's a great site for all your abandoned airfield needs....

I'm feeling better every day! KLR parts sold today :) New bike is ready to go. Still at least a week before I'm clear to ride, and that is being very optimistic. I know where this tag is, but after my mountain bike fiasco, I figure you guys won't accept a photo of the walker the hospital sent me home with next to the sign

Is there security at the goodyear boneyard, or could I take my kids to wander around? I think they would be stoked to see some broken down planes and explore.

There's an office there and it has a satellite dish on it and looks reasonably well maintained. A sign instructs you to check in, and that you are trespassing. Violators will have guns/bikes/vehicles/whatever confiscated.

I saw no people there, no vehicles present.

I've been out there a bunch of times and never run into trouble. Access via Queen Creek Road, it is the first dirt road east of I-10. There is a stop sign and it appears to be a public road. Take that southeast and you actually drive on the runway (which is like 8000' long) at some point :) Look at it on Google earth to get an idea of how to get in off of Queen Creek. There are not any signs or trespass warnings along that route or at the aircraft sights. My wife and I hung out for an hour or so checking out the planes. It's worth the trip IMHO. I wouldn't go there at night though.

LOL. That place is trashed, all the windows are broken out and it looks like they up an left about 8 years ago based upon the paperwork strewn about. It is a non operational airport at this point. I'm guessing they lost federal funding at some point in the mid-2000's and just shut down operations.

I went out to the airstrip last Sunday. That is a really cool spot. It was crazy how remote the area felt.

I need to start playing photo tag with all of you, but I live in East Mesa .
