Mandatory order, diehard friend evacuating Ponderosa Hills now. Fire six to seven miles away at Duckwall Mountain. Smoke extremely bad.

That is a good site Al.
Is the bridges fire the one by Beardsley lake?

My family has a place in Cold Springs and we were thinking of heading up for Labor Day. How bad is the smoke up 108? We are in Reno and the smoke here has driven the air quality up to record "unhealthy" levels. I can only assume that it is worse there.

No, the bridges fire was off of Parrots Ferry on the north edge of New Melones lake. I think, but don't quote me that one is out now.
The report this morning is the Rim grew again overnight with 5% containment.
The smoke is soooo thick here in Sonora you could cut it with knife

Those are impressive pics, wow. There is a tropical storm coming up from Baja. It is either going to make the fire worse with wind or help with rain. I have my fingers crossed for rain.

I took a little ride to get impressive pictures, all I saw was smoke.

It was clear in Groveland. I saw about 30 fire trucks pull out of town. Ferretti rd out of Groveland is not signed, so I rode it out to 120 where the road block is located. Near Lumsden turnoff you can see that the fire came right to road. There is fire retardant on the road and on top of a few homes.

It looks to me that the danger for Pine Mountain/Groveland has passed unless the wind changes

Looking across the canyon you see smoke for miles, so definitely moving north/east.

Thank you for the update.

This is a bit of what they posted on InciWeb

"Fire remains to the west of Paper Cabin Ridge and Evacuation Advisories are still in effect for Tuolumne City and nearby areas along the Highway 108 corridor. Structure protection continues to be an issue with the Rim incident. Restrict access remains a concern for crews and equipment."

"The very high potential for long range spotting however remains a significant concern for fire to advance beyond the retardant lines and allow for fire spread into the communities of Tuolumne City, Twain Harte and Long Barn".

I'll keep an eye on the updates.

Sad situation. The firefighters are doing a great job saving the communities near the fire. Unfortunately they can't be everywhere and it looks like the fire is going to advance towards hwy 108. Lots of prime trails and remote camping areas in that part of the forest.

Rim Fire online map - Most recent perimeter and wind data

The following link will always display the most perimeter of the Rim Fire straight from the GeoMAC server. This is the same server that also provides data to the crews on the fire line. Sometimes the data on the InciWeb site is not as current as the data that comes from the GeoMAC server. (The InciWeb site gets its data from GeoMAC.)

The map also shows wind speed and direction. Note that the wind data is always 3 hours old.

For more information regarding this map, you can follow the “About” link in the upper left corner of the map.
