Hi RRR!
Just about anything is better than warm PBR!
But I'm glad you're enjoying the report :)
Yeah, an evening posting schedule seems to be working out for me.

Aw, thanks Jonathan!
It's so nice that you're still hanging in there.
Wait a minute - you aren't recovering from another injury, are you?

Last time you were really into the Baja report, but you had a cast on your leg....
You were just happy to have something to read during recovery.

Sure thing, lukeman.
I'll put that on my "To do" list...

(don't get matt started! I don't know if we have the funds for that one)

hey, are you serious Jeff?
You're going to Mongolia next year?
Lica has been talking about Africa in 2014...

(I can hear matt now...
)

(stop it - I need to finish this report!)

OK, more Day 12 coming up...

Day 12: 8/12/13
Moab to ?
236 miles, continued.

Bartek, Scott and Radek took off first...

Lica was next...

This is where I got that photo of Lica in the rocks (last pic from yesterday).

I was getting ready to help him, but those Osos are strong.
He was up and running!

Matt took a different line...

I was almost tempted to make a video just because of Matt's maniacal laughter right here.

We were trying to catch Lica...

but he was gone!

We were almost out of the wash. Here's the exit...

Wow, the rain had really packed down the sand!

It’s usually really deep and hard to ride through.

2012

Not this time!

2012

Click HERE to see last year’s video I have it cued up to start right at that sand...
HD is available if you want to really see the rocks.
Watch that and you'll get a preview of the step coming up...(at mark 3:08)

That video was good, I didn’t bother making another one this year.
I took a few screen captures if you want to see more comparisons.
(coming up)

Looks like this section lost some “bricks” in the last year.

2012

Here’s the step. The infamous step.

It looks a little taller now.
Some of the surrounding sand has been washed away.

2012

Matt and I realized that Osito was last.
We waited to make sure that he got past the step safely.

He did.

This section was a little more washed out...

2012

and that was it!

Bye, Eagle Canyon -

Devil's Canyon is next...

I think it would be awesome if you teamed up with Colbatch. That would be a epic ride with a truly epic ride report to follow. We'll be looking forward to it at the end of next summer. You don't want to disappoint the fans. Right?

Poor arctic wildchild!

It seems cruel that they even sell KTM 990s in Europe.
Start saving your pennies euro cents...and see the info below...

And, also because we almost hit a big rock.
It freaked Matt out - he said a little more to the right...
and that hit would have ended our ride.

Good Job for not smacking that rock with your foot or bike... Last years Baja ride one of the guys didn't get so lucky and hit a hidden rock at like 50MPH and broke 5 bones in his foot.. It ended his Baja trip also..

PIC HERE

Holy crap, that photo was disgusting!

Oh, that poor guy!
I hope he healed up okay.

I guess Coney was working overtime on this ride...

Thanks, Paul.
I feel even luckier now!

Let's see...last time I posted, we were leaving Eagle Canyon...

These tunnels make it into most TAT reports.

Splashy!

It had really dumped earlier.
I wonder how much water fletch123 and Sharpie saw in here...

The guys were waiting at the other end.

We talked with Osito about that rock step (leaving the wash).

Radek’s really enjoying his warm PBR today Heh - that linky has Pabst AND Patrick Swayze - a 2 fer.
Something tells me those cans don’t travel well.

This next bit is Devil’s
Canyon. It’s in between Eagle Canyon and Cat Canyon. Questor - I hope Mr. Purr has a shark costume!!

More fun riding - sand with some rocky areas.

Hmmm. Somehow, between the tunnels and this part of the trail,
the monkey fighting GoPro got fogged up.
I didn't take too many pics, so you get some smudgy screenshots.

Step down.

2012

Matt and I remembered this part - it’s deep.
Didn’t look too bad today, the rain had packed it down nicely.
Bartek and Lica had already taken off...
There goes Radek!

There goes Osito!

That's Scott, at the top left corner...

2012.

I made a little video, for those who are interested in the difference between riding in wet sand and dry sand...

And I got to use that “pixie dust” title, finally.

Heh. Rocks are always a nice resting spot after deep sand.

Looking back.

We screwed up and missed a turn after those rocks,
went down a different wash and we *might* have taken some soil samples.
No footage/pics, so I guess it didn't happen...

I'm sure the guys were wondering where we were,
so Matt tried to hurry up...

We were definitely back on track here, I remember this step down.

2012

Hit a deep spot and got all wonky here...

Slight detour...

Back on track!

another big step down...

some sand...

some little steps...

Oh, we're getting close now...

We could just make out some dust clouds ahead...

Cat Canyon, here we come!

(that's supposed to be a school bus covered in sand )

Looks like you guys are having some great weather now... its nice to get the bad weather out of the way first with the good weather at the end of trips.. helps you remember them more in the positive..

Its funny listening to the audio... even when the sand is super deep matt is still laughing .... Me not so much..

meh..... There are plenty of places to ride in Europe as well. Offroad. Countless places in Spain and Portugal, Eastern Europe (like Romania,Czech republic etc) and more. Then if you know where to go, some really cool places in the alps on the French and Italian sides. Surely it has changed since 2009 when they changed the laws. And it's not like we can ride freely in most places in CA
That said, CO/Moab/etc are special places and I hope they will keep them open forever GO OSOS!
