I love watching the KTMs get fixed. It's probably my favorite part of you RR. I love when everything works out. Nice that you were carrying spares too...

Quick question, how do you replace the bearings on the trail? I see a hammer. How did Matt get them out and the new ones back in? Did he use a socket?

haha, I'm glad you enjoyed that poem!

I made Matt work on his Tea and Crumpets post all weekend.
He was not a happy camper.
Afterwards, he said "Monkey fighter! No wonder you always say you're never doing another report again!
So much f**king work."

yep.

But, he did a great job.

Thank you, rides2little <-----(I hope you're going to rectify that )
I love the thought of you using "Oso" on your ride!
It's the new "make ____ your favorite," eh?

Did you scream "Osoooooooooooo!" in your helmet whenever you did something awesome or scary??
Bartek does it quick, but sometimes it's a long, drawn out - Osoooooooooooo....

Yaaaaaaaah! <------ Lica scream

Thanks for your comment! I hadn't noticed the resemblance until you said it.

Hey Jeff!
I'm glad you enjoy the worky worky pics.
There are more to come.

Actually, Lica did all the bearing work himself.
It was not his first rodeo (he replaced his front bearings on the side of the road in Argentina)

I'm sure Lica will be happy to explain more,
right, Lica?

Hi Paul!

Oh, good - people are still using "Make ____ your favorite!"

Making people use stupid catchphrases is MY favorite.

Thanks, Paul!

Ack! Another cliff hanger! I can't take it anymore. I'm gonna have to stop reading for a couple days then soak it all in at once.

Wow!

That bear is really good!
Of course it helps when you are 500 ponds of pure muscle.

Oh, sorry Scribe!
I had 144 pics for Day 14.

I don't know if you've ever done a RR (probably with that screen name),
but
it takes a long time to organize, upload and post 144 pics.
If I didn't chip away at this thing and post a little here and there,
you guys would have to wait even longer!

If you wait 2-3 days, the whole report should be over and you can read it all in one sitting.

Wasn't that cool?
Beary athletic.

Hey, while you're here...what was all that stuff on your RR last night?
PUI or was your account hacked?

Oso intriguing...

Day 14 wrap up on its way....

Day 14: 8/14/13
Great Basin Park to Reno, NV
473 miles, continued

We turned around and headed back...
I think that’s them up there...

Yep.

Aw, crap! Another front flat!

Poor Lica.

Matt thought that this flat was due to the tube getting folded over.
It had been folded over and was rubbing on itself, eventually making tiny holes.

Everyone does things differently, but watching Lica change his tires/tubes,
I had noticed that he leaves it flat.
Matt usually inflates the tube slightly and then pushes it in.

(this photo was from the flat earlier in the day)

Osito took this photo... there's just a tiny bit of flat shoulder on this part of the highway.
It drops off into deep gravel, no good for a bike...

This nice man did a quick U-turn and stopped to see if we needed help.
He said he mostly just wanted an excuse to look at the bikes.
It brought back memories of a past trip, riding through Africa on a motorcycle.
Friendly guy!

It freaked me out to be so close to the highway -
when cars (or worse, semis), drove by - you could really feel it.

Luckily, people were mostly considerate and would give us a wide berth.

Done! Lica had this down.

Another tube for the collection.

Flat count -

1 “deflation” - Scott
2 rear flats - M & K
5 front flats - Lica

I think he tied Bartek’s Baja record!

And, we’re moving...

The shadows were getting long...

Pretty sunset.

This almost looked like water, but I think it was just sand.

Lica beeped in through the Sena. He wanted to put Scott’s address into his GPS.
Matt was trying to spell the street name for him.
The wind noise, plus the intercom distortion = poor communication.

Matt: “.....D...E...S...”
Lica: “....B...E...M...”

Matt: “no, no - D...E...S”
Lica: “...D...E...N”

Matt: “...S! S!...as in Sally”
Lica: “...N as in Natalie?”

We had to pull over. It’s a long street name!

We stopped to get gas.

This was a fancy Sinclair station.

You know I love blurry. Rain photos, night photos...
here are some blurry lights....

Lica

Highway construction?

Getting close to Reno...

This was some kind of casino...

We lost Lica on the freeway...
he was looking down at his GPS, just as we were turning off on to another highway.
Lica glanced up just in time to see Matt waving goodbye...

Uh oh.
Luckily, he had Scott’s address in his GPS now!
There wasn’t even time to hit the Sena to talk before he was out of range...
At least Osito was right next to us! Osito!!

Wooo hooo! Made it to Scott’s house!

And there was Osote!

It was fantastic to see them again.
They had lots of cold beer, too!

Hey, here’s Lica - he was just a few minutes behind us. Good job, Lica!

Scott and Radek were great - they had beer, pizza and grilled sausages waiting for us.
Thanks, Osos. It was wonderful.

Day 14 was finally in the books!

Casualty list for Day 14...

2 front flats - Lica
1 front rim, wheel bearings, fuel filters - Lica
I lost backpack - Lica

tough day for our most enthusiastic Oso...
did it dampen his spirits?
Not really!

Osoooooooo!

I accidentally left the camera in my jacket (in the garage), so no pics.
But we had a lot of fun catching up and spent what was left of the night
looking at photos and video and chilling out.

We missed Bartek, of course...
but I was so happy that 86% of the Osos were together again.

Whew! GREAT REPORT AGAIN!!
Wan, you're the bomb.

That shot of the sand reminds me...

Did you see the "ADV" in the lake bed east of Fallon? It is the only redeeming part of having to go through Fallon.

Thanks again for posting another epic ride report!

Poor Lica had a tough day for mechanical issues. Is that why he posted a picture of a new bike? I'm guessing it's his, I see it has an Oso sticker on it.

Oh, it was too dark when we went through...
We didn't see anything.
