Bluhduh 990 adv OSO winter project

I was born in Romania and moved to Canada in 2004. After exploring as much as I could on my mountain bike, in 2008 I came to the conclusion that I cannot go far enough so that's when I bought my first motorbike(klr).
I bought my KTM 990 adv in 2010 and that's when I really started riding.
After finishing a long trip from Vancouver BC to Ushuaia Tierra del fuego and back and also lots and lots of rides in between (most of them off road) my bike needed a complete overhaul.(especially after the OSO LOCO TACO TOUR)

After Oso LOCO it was time for a new bike not because my 07 bike wasn't running anymore but mostly because in my opinion the LC8 adventures it's by far a "MASTER PIECE" no other bike comes close to this one so why not have two especially now that they'll stop making them

this is my new love 2013 990 adv BAJA edition (yes it's new)

Ok let's get on with "THE PROJECT"

One of the big issues that I'll have to fix soon

This happened on the Rubicon trail this summer and It's not because of the side stand re-locator but because of hitting a big rock with a very soft touratech skid plate. Like our inmate bigwan would say "friends don't let friends buy touratech"

JB weld fix and I was able to finish the Rubicon and ride the bike back to Canada

Well today was day one working on the bike:first getting the parts that need painting of the bike and prepped.

First panel gets some work done

I used paint stripper to take all paint off. It's a must on the KTM as someone in the painting process forgot about the primer on all the 990's that I know

paint stripper at work

making room for some proper Dakar looks

Some face lifting required

I used some 40 grid sand paper to make the back of the panel really rough so the fiberglass resin would bond well.

This is a day worth of work. I'll continue tomorrow and hope to put some primer on.

As you can see from the last picture the bike has different lights. That is a project that me and and a friend, Ian from Britannia composites, work on now. I think it's coming along really well.

At this point we need to test some lights options for the high beam. I like the idea of LED for high beam but it'll come down to the winner of the test we wanna do next week once we have all the lights that we think are worth trying.

Hi Lica,

cool winter projects! (no pun intended)

Should give Ian a qwik plug since he does pretty nice work.

Subscribed. From what I've seen of the Brittaniacomposites Mirage line for BMWs, I'm looking forward to seeing the final product for the 950/990 ADVs. The working model appears to be more swept-back than stock, coupled with an adjustable screen looks like something I'd be very happy with.

Nice choice to buy a Baja as second one. Nice combination of colours. I would love to buy a second one for me as well...but my one must be carb 950! Maybe a SE.

Ciao

Nic

Some progress has been made in the past two days and not only on my bike.
I piked up my project bike from Ian and left the Baja with him so he can work on the fearing.

My friend Razvan needed some help to paint his car so we both worked together to get the car and bike ready for paint. Boy my bike needs a lot of work to mask all the years of "OSO LOVE"

Razvan

After lots and lots of sanding, prepping, laughing and some "visinata"(romanian brandy) we were ready to spray some primer.

whoever invented this mixing cups was a smart man

decorating the Christmas tree

Rolled the bike in to guard the work we did and hit the bed

Looks like the spring from the new bike it's the only clean thing on the bike now... boy it's gonna b a looooong winter
