Riders in MD question

Hello all,

I live in MD (eastern shore) and am looking to get back into dirt riding. I am from western Mass where I grew up riding dirt bikes. I am struggling w/ what type of bike to purchase; pure off-road i.e. kdx200, or something more dualsport oriented i.e. XR650L. I love both types of riding.

The real question boils down to this: I don't know where to ride or who to ride w/ around MD. So I want to know what people are doing / riding around the area. I will be up to drive 2-3 or so hours on the weekend to get to some woods, or if i go the dualsport route I am up for good distance riding.

Note that I already own a pure street bike, so I would like to stay more or less above the 70-30 dirt/street ratio.

Thanks in advance

Ian

Hey kdxkid,

Meet up with these fine folks and don't tell them I think they are "fine folks" DDBs. Sometimes they are in cahoots with these folks, SMIBs. These folks here go to a pay to play riding area called Eagle Bay and do other D/S riding.

ok

So what type of riding do you guys typically do? I really want to know if I will be stupid to buy a non-plated dirtbike (i.e. KDX200). Browsing around I see mostly dualsport riding. I don't believe I would want anything bigger than an xr650l.

Thanks for the replies

Gravel forest roads mostly and some double and single track when we can find it. 650's are popular but people run everything from 250 to GS1200.

Most of the weekend camping/riding is over in the GW forest just west of Harisonburg VA and further west into WV.

OBTW, unless you're going to the track, an unplated bike is worthless.

No you can not. You need to find a pay to play area for unplated bike, 4 wheeler etc.
