kdx, everybody who's posted in this thread are friends in meatspace.
in Southern regional forum you'll find a mess of rides, camp/rides, Official ADV Rallies are here: http://advrider.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=24
RTEs "Ride to eats" are a great way to start networking.
RTS is Goosecreeks ride to shoot... usuallly involves camping, shooting and good vibrations..... I mean libations.
You will find all types of riding styles once you start making friends.

2 tips though...remember to bring your sense of humor or you won't survive. well.. you will probably survive, but you won't be happy.

If you end up in the basement, wait and lurk for a significant time. They eat noobs down there and shit out the bones.

And make sure you wear all of your gear..

Heaven forbid you get seen wearing shorts on a 100 degree day with 9000% humidity....

Trust me you would rather have road rash than listen to them preech to you about what you should wear!!!!

See This is where the sense of humor comes in to play...

Hack and I can pretty much cover a Ride on the lower shore ... I think its about time to get another one together..

There is a dual sport EXC300 on the Eastern Shore Craigslist right now. I talked to the guy a couple of weeks ago. He said it has a full dual sport kit and a title. If you can find somebody who will inspect it you could have a 99/01 dual sport.

So it is humor you want? can do.

That burr in your pouty cameltoe wouldn't be there if you rode with proper pants.

I agree on getting a plated bike.

I had a Honda xl250 as my first dual sport bike. It was great, but I found that the 250 limited where I could ride. Most of the 'good' spots are at least an hour (and usually more like 2-3) ride from the Baltimore area, and I wasn't having fun doing 3 hrs of 55 mph pavement riding on the 250 to get to some good dirt.

I 'upgarded' to an xt500, and its much better on the road. I have ridden more place this past summer on the xt500 than I did in the few years that I had the 250.

Unfortunately, in our area you NEED a street legal bike. Preferably one that you can do a few hours of 50-ish mph riding to get somewhere to play in the dirt / explore.
