5 years i had a SE . Now i have a 1190 with r . Those 2 bikes are not comparable. SE is rough, brutal and powerful bike with essential electricity. Works, runs and kicks ass.
Now i have been driving for a while with 1190 r . Ok it´s a great piece of work, full of electronics and whatta engine but not even come to my mind to take 1190r places ,where i took my SE . So my opinnion is: 2 diffrent kind of bikes, not comparable.

I have a 950SE. I've commuted to work, crossed the Great West of North America, ridden it on single track that would challenge my 450, even ridden caboose in a parade of Harley Davidsons. I've yet to find a situation this bike does not handle flawlessly (except parading behind a bunch of HDs). If you want a true adventure bike, a bike that will go ANYWHERE you desire, will always have more capability than your ability, I see no reason to spend the extra coin for the 1190. Besides, who wants FI anyway. Blah!

And for those that run the 960 windscreen, I took mine off. The air is so much cleaner.

A skilled rider on either will embarrass a lesser skilled rider on the other in the other's "domain".

Or is this just a new thread to bash the 1190 and let all the SE or big suspension studs say once again how manly they are?

If the latter, than carry on
Im a bigger stud then you!

They're not here in the US until mid/end of 2014. The local KTM dealer is getting the standard 1190 in Dec and I'll try that out.

trust me you will like 1190r if you really like 950 se. but if you got only 950 available at the minute that's a great bike to ;)

They both got 2 wheels.
One just happens to have the wrong size for offroad.

Exactly.

Given the same rider the 1190 will smoke the 950 (or 990) anywhere the HP can be put to use.

Given the same rider the 950 will go places the 1190 won't. (950 wins on suspension travel, ground clearance, and wheelbase)

I'd opt for the 1190 in a heartbeat if I could promise myself not to take it places I shouldn't. But alas, I really suck at keeping promises to myself or my bikes. Ask my poor 990 SMT. :(

Seems to me Tancakar pushed the 950SE pretty close to the bike's limit. Really hard in bad terrain. Gnarly stuff. Scary.
So if he says that a 950SE pilot will like the 1190 he is just right.

Tancakar, please comment about your 950SE v/s 1190 experience

Are you trying to be a dick or are you a dick?

Yes I test ride 950 se great bike but I ride it on road. I didn't comment that I ride it to its limit or anything. 1190 got smoother engine and will do touring ,enduro better that's all I believe. But the guy said they will have the 1190 adv. at 2014 so I said 950 se still is a great bike but you must try the 1190 adv.

I don't understand why such a loser comment from you ?
