9th Annual W M R S Ride Bishop, CA Aug 1-4, 2013

The 9th Annual WMRS Ride in Bishop, CA.

Thursday August 1 thru Sunday August 4. (some folks show up on Wednesday)

So do you want to ride to over 12,000 ft? See great vistas and take great pictures? Then this ride is for you!!!!

DO NOT SEND ME ANY MONEY, THIS IS AN " UN RALLY ". YOU WILL PAY FOR CAMPING AND DINNER YOURSELF (we might do something different Saturday Night..... I'll keep you posted.).

DO NOT CALL THE CAMP GROUND

IT WILL BE COLD AT NIGHT

AND YES, THEIR ARE STILL COWS ON THE ROAD

Ok Ladies and Gentleman ( and I use the term loosely ), Boys and Girls, ADV Riders of all ages! It is time to announce the 9th annual WMRS Ride in Bishop, CA.

Once a year the White Mountain Research Station has an open house. Located in the Bristle cone Pine Forest, this is the only time of the year that you can ride all the way up to the station and check it out ( 13K ft ). It is always the first Sunday in August, this years ride dates are 08-01-13 thru 08-04-13, with the open house (might be happening...) on Sunday 08-04-13. we will still hold the rally, you can still ride up to the White Mountain, but there will not be an open house this year. The area is loaded with great dual sport riding and camping. This a great weekend of riding the high country , with much cooler temps. I will be making the trip, hope you can join me. The pic reports below say it all.

Info On White Mountain Research Station:

White Mountain Research Station, with its principal office located in the Owens Valley near Bishop, was established in 1950 to provide laboratory facilities for any qualified research investigator wishing to utilize the high-mountain environment for his or her work, and to serve as teaching facilities for field courses conducted in the region. There are four separate laboratory sites: one in the Owens Valley; a second at Crooked Creek, at an elevation of approximately 10,000 ft (2,090 m); a third at the base of Mt. Barcroft, at an approximate elevation of 12,500 ft (3,801 m), making it the 11th highest high-altitude station in the world and the fourth highest in North America; and a fourth, the Summit Laboratory, atop White Mountain Peak, at an elevation of 14,246 ft (4,340 m). The Summit Laboratory is the fourth highest high-altitude research facility in the world and the highest in North America.

CAMPGROUND

DO NOT CALL THE CAMPGROUND!!!
I have spots for 100 + ADV Riders reserved. Also the Camp Ground is located at 7,000 ft. The nights can be cool, that's why we use it. Also their are COWS on the road, that's why they call it "Open Range"

Again, this year we will be using The Browns Owens River Campground.
http://www.brownscampgrounds.com/owens.html
It is located on the Benton Crossing Rd ( also known as the Green Church Rd ) 6 miles east of US 395. Turn East at the Green Church just north of Crowley Lake and just south of the Mammoth Airport. The campground has showers available from 8 am until 4pm, very clean restrooms, and a small store with Beer and Ice. They also have a grill for Breakfast and Lunch.
$27 per day for a pick up (price went up because of costs)
with trailer or a motor home.
$10 (might be more still getting word from Rhonda) for motorcyclists that ride in OR a solo pick up/van
.
Pay at the store when you arrive. This campground can handle RV's of any size. If you like to fish, bring your gear. The Fly fishing is fantastic here. FYI this campground " Does Not Take Credit Cards" ( no land line, but cell phones work great ), but they will take a check and of course cash.

PM me or post if your in and I'll put you on the list

I JUST HIGHLIGHTED ALL THE IMPORTANT INFORMATION IN YELLOW.

keep in mind this is an unRally.
come out and ride with friends new and old.
the ride up to the top of WMRS on Sunday is not an organized ride.
but it is the day that WMRS has the OPEN HOUSE (of course they're in limbo with State funding) so that is the day we all ride up, but this is NOT a group ride.

you are responsible for yourself.

BE PREPARED FOR ANYTHING. TOOLS. TUBES. WARM WEATHER GEAR. COLD WEATHER GEAR. EXTRA PARTS. ETC.

there is a motorcycle shop in Bishop that carries Honda and Yamaha products.
http://www.goldenstatecycle.com/

there's a repair shop in Mammoth. no parts for sale or store front, but there are mechanics on hand.
http://www.mammothmotorsports.com/

these shops have normal motorcycle shop days/hours. closed Sunday and Monday.

there will be 100+ riders so you will find someone to ride with.

RV's are welcome. there is tons of space.

riding in, trucking in, whatever. just get there and have a good time.

elevation is....

4K in Bishop. 7K at camp. 8K in Mammoth. 12+K at White Mountain Research Station(Barcroft Station).

the weather can be 100 degrees in Bishop and 70 in Mammoth and 45 at the top of White Mountain. dress in layers.

Stonewall is still involved silently but if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to PM me.

(please don't quote this post)

I will be constantly adding info to this post and the following few posts with information.

so there is no open house this year but we will still ride to the top.

with Silver Canyon Road, Old Silver Canyon Road, Wyman Canyon Road, Crooked Creek Road, and Woodcutters there is plenty to ride and you'll get up to 10,000 feet. the views are spectacular!!!

–——••• _•••••••••••••
I just got off the phone with Barbara, Rhonda's partner.

she was very direct about some basic rules that she wants me to pass along to all you fucks.

•PAY AT THE STORE IMMEDIATELY WHEN YOU ARRIVE. TALK TO BARBARA. (Rhonda won't be there this year)

•IF YOU USE GENERATORS, OBEY GENERATOR HOURS.

•DO NOT RIDE ON WALK WAYS.

•DO NOT RIDE AROUND CAMP LIKE A SQUID.

•DO NOT RIDE THE DIRT MOUND SOUTH OF CAMP OR ANY OF THE PROPERTY SOUTH OF CAMP. (it's tempting I know)

•STAY IN THE HORSESHOE AREA IN CAMP SITES 73 - 96

•YOU'LL SEE MY WHITE FORD VAN WITH THE ORANGE WORK SIREN ON THE BACK AND THE ADV BANNER

•CAMP FEE PER NIGHT IS $17 per bike/per person (this is a discounted fee for us)
$27 per truck/RV/van/car

•SHOWER TOKENS ARE $1 each (this is a discounted fee for us)

again, Barbara was very direct to me about some ongoing issues in the past. this a great place for us to stay, I'd hate for us not to be invited back because of a few asshats.

Questions:
If the open house is Sunday, how long does it typically to ride up there and back? Is it OK to come Fri and leave Mon instead of trying to truck it home 6hrs?

Time to investigate other DS rides in the area!
