Longmont-Rollinsville Dualsport Ride Saturday Morning (8/31)

My recent post looking for Longmont dual-sport riders got some great responses the other day from local riders. One of our local inmates (BikeSDP) has even offered to lead a group of us on a dual-sport tour of the area this Saturday, so I thought I would throw this out there to any other local riders who might be interested who want to join us for what promises to be an EXCELLENT way to spend your Saturday morning.

Here's the plan:
  • 8am (somewhat flexible on time, see below) - Meet up at the Diamond Shamrock gas station at Hover and Nelson in Longmont.
  • Fuel up and go.
  • Navigating the dirt roads to Plateau/US36
  • Left Hand to Lickskillet and through Gold Hill
  • Peak to Peak 2.3 miles to Rainbow Lakes
  • Thru Caribou and down to Ned for gas
  • W Magnolia to Rollins Pass Rd to Mammoth Gulch
  • From here it was going to be Saxon Mtn via Apex Rd to Central City/Oh My God and Idaho Springs and then Kingston Peak--hadn't decided which I wanted to do first.
  • We'll do Kingston Peak in the easier direction and then finish up in Rollinsville. So, Saxon first from Idaho Springs and then Kingston from Alice

Gas will be available in Longmont (obviously), Nederland, Georgetown, and then back in Nederland on the way back.

This will be quite a morning and we'll have to keep an eye on the weather, but hope to be following the "down by 2" rule to avoid any afternoon thunderstorms, etc.

Somewhat flexible on time if 8am is just too damn early for anyone. :) Please check here for final updates on start time on Friday night. I'm hoping we can get a little group together...

Edit:
Still looks like we're shooting for 8am.

There will be gas in Idaho Springs as well

I'll be on a 500EXC, but these are all Jeep roads that I've seen people ride on large, adventure bikes as well.

Tommyknocker

I'm also thinking that if we're in the Idaho Springs area already and anyone wants to stop by Tommyknocker for a fresh brew before we head back, I could be talked into that.

Sounds like fun! Let me see if I can get a hall pass from the wife. If not for the whole day, maybe to meet you guys for lunch in Idaho Springs. What time do you think you'd be there?

Yep open - rode 355/105 this weekend - 355 is very different though because of all the clear cutting..

Not sure. About 90% of these trails are totally new to me. All else fails you can message our fearless leader BikeSDP. If you PM me your #, I could call when we are close and have coverage. Hope you can make it for the full ride though! Looks like we might have a fun little group!

Add Another to Your List

Does indeed sound fun...so count me in. Have never actually ridden with a group before so this should be interesting. Looking forward to it.

I wish i could find that route again. I always get lost and end up at the tree tunnel. Anyone care to share the route? I might use it next weekend for the J&H ride "C" group.

Sure, I'll have my GPS on and will be running a track. I can upload something to this thread afterward.
