Upside down for a week

So one may ask, why would ya travel half way around the world for only 8 days of glory? Well, 1) opportunity presented itself, and ya never know if it will present itself again. 2) I've got some good friends there(now even more ), and always enjoy seeing them and 3) I do have a family at home to raise, so I couldn't stay gone forever.

So let's get to it, I live in a little bitty hicktown in NC, I used to own a Triumph Speed Triple, made many a life long friends from that bike/forum from all over the world, a couple of those guys being from the land of OZ. They have been to the US now twice for 2 different tours, and I thought it was time to repay the favor. Especially since my buddy John offered up a bike for me to ride, so why not right?

me- "Honey, surely our home repairs can wait another year or so, right?"
honey- "Only if I'm going with you!" so make that a couple of years to wait on home repairs and let the planning begin!

My buddy John planned the whole thing, and I can never thank him enough for all of the trouble he went to for us.

Alright, let's get to it! This trip may not be as adventure filled as some may like, but let me ask you this, have you ever been couped up in an airplane for 16hrs? That's a helluva an adventure in itself.

Pics are a coming!

me and the wife settling in for our short trip across the pond...

that's a long ways!

and that was after a 5 hr flight from the east coast!

Not much happened during this time, except for the fact we left Tues midday to arrive in Melbourne on Thurs morning! And besides the fact that I ate dinner on the plane, watched a movie, played a game or two, listened to some music, then fell asleep for a quick catnap only to wake up to about 9 hrs left of flight. I almost lost it.

When we finally arrive in Melbourne, my friend John was there, along with a new found friend to me Jenny that flew in from Queensland to meetup with her husband that was riding down with some others.

By the time we made it back to John's place, the welcoming committee had already made it. Good times.

how to start off your day in OZ, if you've never tried vegemite, then ummm...

so you may ask, what does this redneck hillbilly plan on riding while he's upside down? What else?

The first day of riding, John had planned for us to ride The Great Ocean Road. Did I mention not only are those guys upside down, but they do everything backwards! They all drive on the wrong side of the road!

Took the ferry from Sorrento to Queenscliff.

the gang was nice enough to stand guard of the "rockin bikes" while me and my honey went up top to sight see.

time to make our way to The Great Ocean Road!

good peoples, Pete and Kim

my good buddy John, the one that put all of this together and helped us make it happen.

I told ya they drive on the wrong side!

We had a pretty decent group riding up The Great Ocean Road!

the lady tourists all gave me thumbs up.

Stopped in a little town called Lorne for lunch, great little place.

After lunch, our next stop was the 12 Apostles along The GOR

The views here were breathtaking, beautiful part of OZ.

and from beauty to....

that's bucket, my other good friend from QLD that has been over to the states a couple of times. Top blokes all of these gentlemen are.

From there it was on up to Hamilton for the night. My wife snapped a few pics of some of the guys as I wheelied past them(yeah right, she would kick my arse if I actually did that with her on the back )

John again

Anthony

and Apollo

once we arrived in Hamilton and got settled in, we walked to the nearest pub for some grub!

Looks like someone had a blast. I've never been to a country where they drove on the wrong side of the road. I bet that was experience in itself.

After our visit at the zoo, it was time to get back on the road to John's place in Frankston. His friend was travelling over from Tazzy to meet up with us for Sunday, more on that later.

So back to riding!

not sure if this is some sort of Aussie riding style or what? weird

had a lunch stop in Avoca for their famous meat pies! I was told I could not leave the land of OZ without trying one, but what's not to like, it's meat and bread

well we finally make it back to Frankston, just in time to get cleaned up and hit this authentic Chinese joint that John said was the best. It was darn good.

Sunday... time to go see WSBK at Phillip Island!

I love this shot my wife got as we were nearing the gate.

isn't this a great looking pit crew?

just watch out if you decide to nap in between races!

if you've never been to Phillip Island, put it on your bucket list. It's one of the most beautiful race track settings I've ever seen!

so since we spent all day watching some racing, we didn't have much travel time, so we just stopped in Yarram for the night.

Hat's off for undertaking the 16 hour flight. The eight hours to Europe is about my limit.
Great RR
