I just got back from a 10 day trip - from Salt Lake City, up through Yellowstone and Glacier then back down through the bitterroots. It snowed on Wed (above 7K). You'll definitely be pushing it with the CO passes, but well worth the risk :)
Safe travels!

Black Tenere/snowy background pics could be front page material! Hope to do a trip like this soon, I'll be taking notes.

Cool2 Iron butts newest member

Day one is in the books!!!

[IMG][/IMG]

My first iron butt is now complete. 1012 miles in 16 hours and fifteen minutes. It was quite a bit easier than I was expecting, and actually found myself squirming around less as the day wore on. My neck was getting a bit stiff for the last few hours, but regular stretching help that. Very glad to have the bulk of the "boring" part of the trip behind me. Boring is tongue and cheek of course. Any day spend riding is better than most anything else!! The Mitas tires are holding up great, hardly show any wear, also noticed they run very cool compared to regular street tires. Highlights of the trip were a soggy morning departure, complete with wiping the dew from my visor, a rainbow after punching through the cold front, many south bound Canada geese (and a few with broken GPS headed north), and seemingly endless miles of vine grapes in western New York. These were fantastic and the smell was intoxicating. Just one more treat you will never get to experience in a 4 wheeled vehicle.

Just a shot mid stride at a gas station

Tomorrow I'm headed to Watertown SD for my first night of camping!! Hopefully there is cell service so I can continue with the live ride report. Sorry for the lack of good pics today I was too busy pounding pavement.

Well day 3 is in the books! Yesterday, Traveling between western Minnesota and South Dakota was by far the most intense wind I have ever experienced on 2 wheels. A 500 mile day in that was twice as punishing as my 1000 mile ride on day once. My neck was on fire as I pulled into the campground. I got my camp setup, ate a frozen pizza at the visitor center and slept through the night like a baby. No pictures from yesterday as it wasn't all that scenic, and I was too busy holding on for dear life. It marks the first time I ever leaned to the left around a right hand corner.
Before falling asleep I checked the weather for Yellowstone and was pretty bummed. Winter storm nightmare in the forecast, and bear tooth highway is no place to mess around with a foot of snow. So scratch that one.

This AM I beat feet southwest, towards Mt. Rushmore. The winds had died down thankfully and made for an amazing day on a bike. As I got further west the views got better and better.

The roads started to get these things called "turns" in them. The landscape was changing, and I was really smiling. I was entering the Badlands!
