Average milage per day in Russia

Hey guys,

I want to go from Saint-Petersburg to Murmansk on the M18.
Initially I plan to do 500km (310miles) per day.

Is this feasible, or can I do more?

Thanks a lot!

Hi Wim

I drove the >Magistrale 18< between Murmansk and St. Peterburg in 2009 and in 2011. They did a lot of work on the M18 and the tarmac on most of the road is in good condition. No problem to ride 500km or more a day.

Groetjes

There is parts on reconstruction:

There is parts already ready:

Notice the main: M8 is poor of gas stations. So make fuelling more often to have et least 200 km cruising range

Hi Wim

I slept in this hotels:

Hotel Karelia in Petrozawodsk.
Comfy hotel with a nice view to Lake Onega. The pier to Kishi Islands is not far away.

Hotel "Prichal", Kem. It looks more like a camp with wooden houses. 10 min away from Kem city at the Rabocheostrovsk village at the White Sea.
The boats to the Solovezky Islands are just beside.
Polniari Zori Hotel, Knipovicha 17 – Murmansk, It belongs to the Park Inn by Radisson Group, Good Restaurant, livelybar

Don’t miss: Karelskaja Gornitsa, Petrozavodsk, Engelsa 13
Award winning restaurant with karelian food. Elk and bear meat in season.
(Don’t eat the Bear!)

Gruesse!

Gunter

Hi Zwarte-zee

Click on Karelische Tour (2009) or Russlands Norden (2011)
you wil find some pics more, maps and reports (in German)

A question because of your name:
Have you been at the Zwarte-zee in Turkey, Georgia and Russia?
This is where I want to go next year.

I like to have some new information about the situation at the boarder at Turkey/Georgia and Georgia/Russia.

We are a group of six (mostly BMW) riders from Finland and Germany. So if you want to join us next July you are welcome. pm me.

And this will be another thread. Here is still about Russi and the M18.

I came home last week from Russia. Rode M18 from crossroad A134(came from Kostamus) and turn southeast about 100kms before St.Petersburg.

From the crossroad the road is in very good condition. 10-20 kms bigger roadwork, but no problems to ride on.

How the ride was? Very boring.....

Hey Zwarte-zee

I'm riding a Beemer 1150GS Adventure.. Gas shouldn't be much of a problem
