NewZumo 390 ( ! ? )

https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/on-t...rod138275.html

Comparison w/Zumo 350: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/cata...Product=107979

As best I can tell, it is the same as the 350, with the addition of:
Tire pressure monitor system: yes; individual sensors sold separately

Curvy Roads routing: yes
No idea how well either of those work.

Unless one can now view imported Tracks on screen, I see it as only good for the street rider only.

I don't even understand why the need for a new model number(?). The TPMS is ANT+ so there's no additional hardware needed to support it that I can think of.

"Curvy Roads routing?" No new hardware needed there. I suppose, like most new Garmin units, someone will have to tell us what does and doesn't work. Maybe the zumo folks will get lucky and they've added a lot of internal RAM for "code expansion".

Just thought about it...does the zumo350LM have ANT+? If not, there's the answer to why a 390LM.

How can I tell? I don't know what an ANT+ is....

And yes, why not just improve the 350, lord knows it could sure use it.

You might look in Tools->System-> for ANT+ settings. I would be surprise if the 350lm had it.

As I read the PR description of the 390LM, it would appear that not only have they added ANT+ receiver but they have also improved the Bluetooth chipset. I would also expect maybe additional RAM so they have room to add more code than the 350LM offered (guessing). Given the features and pricing I'd expect the 350LM to be discontinued rather soon.

Well, I guess we have to be impressed that they didn't raise the price $100 just because they added ANT+.

I think they know where the "pain" threshold is.

You do realize it's nothing more then a 350 with ANT+ added right?

I think there's more then just that (ie Bluetooth phone and headset connectivity ala Zumo 66x.) But since this is the Internet, you must be an expert.

I'll wait until it's released and then compare.

ANT+ is an industry standard wireless technology that was developed by the Fitness Industry some years ago. It allows accessories such as heart rate monitors, speed/cadence sensors, foot pods, power meters, Fitness Equipment in addition to Garmin's tempe™, chirp™, VIRB Camera and now Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor (TPMS) to “talk” to your compatible Garmin device like the zumo390LM and potentially other ANT+ enabled units.

Well it does offer some kind of curvy road routing feature, which could probably be offered on the 350 with a firmware update. While I'm no expert I do KNOW the 350 does in fact have BT connectivity to a headset only, and that the 390 does NOT have the BT connectivity to a phone like the 66X but just a headset only like the 350. BTW, you don't need to be an expert, just have to comprehend the spec sheet on Garmins site for both GPSR's

Here's a link to make it easy. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/cata...Product=107979

The Power of Bluetooth
zūmo 390LM features Bluetooth wireless technology. Simply connect your zūmo with your mobile phone and a Bluetooth-enabled headset or helmet (sold separately) to make and receive calls on the go. With it, you’re free to talk on your phone without having to remove your gloves or helmet. You can also call points of interest through the zūmo Bluetooth interface, perfect for a last-minute change of plans or a quick pit stop for food and fuel.

Sounds pretty close to the zumo 66x to me. But we won't really know until the unit ships to see what it does out of the box.

Not the first time Garmin says one thing in one place about a unit and the complete opposite in another.

Bluetooth® wireless technology: Yes (Helmet or headset use only)

Right off the spec section on the 390.

So who you gonna believe, Garmin or Garmin?

I am far from an expert on these things, but my reading of the specs does not show that they added the ability to view imported tracks.
