Older 950 with low miles

Simple question; would you buy a 9 year old 950 with 3k miles? Po is stating its way since new, was first started in may and rode 3k over the summer. Looks very clean, would you consider it? Price is 9k, btw.

Why wouldn't you consider it? The price is on the high side, though.

'03 was first year of production so it's an '03?
Although I've not owned one I wouldn't buy anything older than 205.5, from what I've read here. I had one of those and it was good - got about 9k for it on trade in 2010.
And $9K American - I'd be doing OK to get that for my 2010!
So, no, IMHO.

Math was off - the bikes a 2004. I figured sitting that long would be bad for seals, etc? Bike is actually owned by small m/c shop owner by here, which may explain higher price. I'm looking for a GSA or 950/990 adv for under 10k. Liked that this is through a shop and that it's completely stock and unmolested.

I have a 9 year old one that I bought in 2007. It had 13000 more miles than that, but it cost $2100 less than that- again, in 2007.

Check the wear, on the pegs, frame and tank where the boots, legs rub, wear on the brakes, tires, grips, etc. If it makes sens that this bike really has 3k miles, pry his price down some.

To help you negociate, 2004 needs quite few upgrades, technical bulletins, etc. Look for other low miles bike as comparison. Compare miles, price and $$$ of farkles.

I paid $7,500 for a 05 that had 3,200 miles on it. It had sat so long the carb was all gummed up and would not run. So, I bought it with no test ride. Tore it down, jetted the carb... it was "as new" when I put it on the road. No issues with it sitting so long. Still no issues 3 years later...

I have restored 70s street bikes that sat out in the weather for 20 years and replaced nothing more than the points, tires and carb jets. Put 20k miles on one of them before the first issue... a leaky fork seal.

Yeah...the problem with paying top dollar for low miles is if you are gonna use it it's going to depreciate like mad. In a couple years if you ride like I do it will be worth only a little more than an average '04 with average miles.

Miles don't really hurt these bikes and there are used '04s out there for half that, already set-up and sorted out.

It sounds like a clean bike but the price is way too high.

While the 2005.5+ bikes have more of the factory fixes, I don't think the early bikes were that much worse off. That's really low miles though, on a bike that, if you ride it off road at all, is going to get a little beat up cosmetically. To me at least, it's just not worth it, and you'll probably need to go over it and make sure no seals are dried out and that the carbs are clean. Low miles isn't everything.

I paid $7600 for a VERY clean '06 with @ 9,000 miles. $9k is too much for the '04.
