Wow, that got heated...

I say race the damn wheels off the KLR: why not

Besides, you can't lose if you finish.

""" Is there ANY interest in seeing a complete and total Idiot Inmate race the PPIHC on a KLR ?

Folks, I REALLY need adult input here. """

And this was the original question, right?

I'm all for it. If I had time and a break from my Dark Overlord, I'd travel to the event.

LOL. The more I read this thread the more I started thinking "Go For IT!"

People don't understand that the more people tell you shouldn't do something the more they have to do it.

This Is Murrica! You can do anything.

PS I wonder if somebody on a r1200GS has raced up the Peak before?

I would do it. Why the hell not. They crush it on HP2s. People get too damn bent I thought racing was supposed to be fun.

Go for. I bet you will finish on the KLR and it won't blow up like a lot of the race bikes will that day. Not to mention I am sure it will be fun.

That was indeed my original question, "...interest in seeing."
I think my choice of word, "input" may have been poor and lead people to actually believe I can take a negative point of view constructively... I can't. And now you know.

A legend in your own mind. Won every race you entered? Right......
And where pray tell, did you amaze yourself with these feats?
There surly must be records of your dominance.
Put up or shut up the saying goes.

Really ?

EDIT: First and foremost I apologize to you for that post.... it was a bit dickish. I forget that outside of the, “regional” forum, nobody here actually knows me. My reference to last year’s record was a reflection on, “My Day Job.”

Guy I wasn't looking for a JM flame war or trying to start a fight with folks. I was looking for input, a couple of folks think it's a bad idea, a few think it's a worthwhile effort.

On the money side alone, a quick spreadsheet shows (bare bones) it will take $7900 out of pocket to do this, provided I can get the bike set-up in 2 track days and ride practice with only 2 sets of tires. (Let's hope the spring rates are correct... I'm a "shagger" when they are not.)

For me, this is a very serious cash outlay for one 15 minute time attack. In comparison, Last year I (finally) flew my wife to Germany, skied the Alps, ran an Opel lame on the Autobahn, rented a CBR1000 and rode Bavaria, Austria and a bit of Italy (they're all really close together by US standards) for $7100 (Free airfare on that figure.) Currently I only have around 8k invested in the bike including the original new purchase price of $5400. I do not undertake this potential endeavor lightly.

I have bikes that are perceived as better suited... I simply enjoy going fast on bikes that the cool kids typically don't like

Go for it. If the promoters accept your entry, have a blast.

'Preciate that !

The next ten days or so will be a make it or break it for the "Anti-Strada" effort. (Nothing against the 'Strada... you just can't get much farther away from one than a KLR.)

As far as Patrick Dempsey ... I do recall a deceased racer suppporting his habit by working as a semi-professional actor. Paul Newman !

Seveeenty-niiine HUNDRED dollars?? WTF? That's like 10 track days and 3 week-long trips to Deals Gap....NOT Camping....it would be about 10 trips if we did camp...

Perhaps I need to re-think my 'Go-for-it Babe!' when you mentioned PPIHC.

Love, The Wife

In full disclosure to all involved parties... We're now, "Compromised."

EDIT: 2159 EDT She just popped in "The Hunger Games" on Blue-Ray. We're clear for like 2 hours.
