Changing Helmet Size?

I know my size is XL in either Schuberth C3 or Shoei Neotec & I'm wondering if you can change the helmet size via a pad change for either of these helmets from a L or XXL to XL?

I'd say it depends on the fit problem. My Icon helmet fits the shape and the crown of my head, but mashed in my cheeks. I was about to go up a size when I thought of swapping to thinner cheekpads, which worked like a charm.

The know the Schuberth will go from xl to xxl with a liner change. I can't speak to the Shoei. I also know an Icon Variant that went from 3xl to xl with a liner change when I lost a bunch of weight.

Yep, mine literally made my teeth ache, like wearing braces. I wasn't expecting a difference of only 5mm to help, but it really did.

Revzilla had a return helmet that was a L & I asked them if a pad change would get me to an XL & they said it wouldn't work. I guess I need to call Schuberth as there are a lot of used helmets out there that interest me but not always my size plus I could play with the fit if two pad sets?

Yeah, if I've heard correctly most helmets are in 3, maybe 4 sizes as far as shell - the rest is pad changes. The trick is finding out which shells are used for which sizes.

Schuberth C3 has 2 shell sizes. XS thru L size helmets use the "small" shell, and XL and up use the "large" shell.

Remove the cheek pads and wet them then squash them in between something really heavy.

I've never opened the foam "pads" to peek but do wonder if they are "open cell" or "closed cell" foam & what (as in safety removing) effect "squirshing" them while wet will have?

Thanks for the tip on shell sizes with Scuberth.

Anyone know offhand as to Neotec shell size grouping for an XL?

google is our friend....from shoei web site

3 Shell Sizes
While some of our competitors rely on foam padding for fitting a wide range of customers, SHOEI offers an industry-leading three shell sizes in the new Neotec to ensure a custom fit for heads between the sizes of XS-XXL.

.....send them an email and ask where the 'breaks' are.
