8 days in Greece

My sweetheart and I have 8 full days to spend in Greece. We are leaving 3 October and fly in/out of Athens. So far we are interested in spending some time in Athens (Acropolis), the island of Santorini and maybe Ios as well as visiting the cliff top monasteries in Meteora.

Other than that what should we not miss?

We do not have any lodging or in country travel plans so hotel and restaurant suggestions are much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Gregg
I'm sure you remember me. You were a great host when I passed through San Diego on my borrowed DRZ en route from Baja California to LA a couple of years ago.

Myself and the "her outdoors" are riding from NE Bulgaria to Athens between 25 and 31 October. The bike is staying in Athens and we return there again in December. It's a huge shame that our dates don't overlap.

Can't comment on things to see and do as I've never ridden there, but everything I hear is very positive.

Have a great trip.
Chris

Hi Brighty! Of course I remember you. I follow your adventures with great envy. So sorry I won't see you in Athens. You are always welcome in San Diego.

You're also very welcome in Yorkshire!

Have you also tried contacting the Greek HU Communities at http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/com...tEnglish.shtml or just posting in the Europe section on the HUBB.

Hi Gregg,

The time that you suggest (8 days), IMO is not enough to do many things around here, I am in Athens but can give you advise, Meteora is nice, but it is quite far from Athens (will you go by bus or by car? )

There are other places near Athens, Delphi and Mycenae are nice places to see. Santorini also is very interesting because of the volcano and from there you can go by boat to Chania, Crete for (let's say, a day...). Then I guarantee that you will go back to Crete for your next holidays

pm me if you need more info, would be happy to help...

Till Later,
D.

We did Meteora-Delphi-Athens in 2011 enroute to Turkey so that's doable (maybe a day's travel between each). I can recommend the hotels we used at Meteora, Delphi and Athens (a little outside in Attica) .

Meteora: HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!! http://www.booking.com/hotel/gr/dell...35b63bf;dcid=1

Delphi: http://www.booking.com/hotel/gr/aeol...35b63bf;dcid=1

Athens: http://www.booking.com/hotel/gr/blue...35b63bf;dcid=1

We rode our bikes, but we did go some interesting places, and we stayed in hotels, ate and drank,
so you might find something to your liking in our report Riding in Greece.

Olives and Ikarian Honey! That would make the trip memorable in itself.
