Cool2 Ice Riding, Snow Bikes and Other Wheeled Winter Fun

It's September now, it's getting dark earlier and it's time to look ahead.

Last year I spent a few spare weekends bringing the 350X out to the Blindman River. No studs, just simple, 3 wheel shenanigans.

This year, I'll be setting up a bike for ice riding.
Maybe even look for a Timbersled kit.

I'm sure there are a bunch of folks with some good knowledge on the subject and others with some questions.

I'll start by asking if anyone knows of a good supplier for ice studs/spikes/tires?

Heated hand grips?

Is it best to use a Trials or Dual Purpose tire to stud?

Anyone here tried a sport bike on ice?

Maybe post good ice riding rivers and tracks?

Reviews on snow bike kits?

Winter accessories and gear?

Pictures of winter rides?

Let the good times roll!

I ordered a set from him last week for my Husky.
Looking forward to trying real studs. Sheet metal screws in old dirt bike tires only go so far.

I've got George Jones tires. Just like Velcro on the ice.

Simmer makes a better rear.
Breaks loose on deceleration, but hooks up on acceleration with less wheelspin than a Jones tire.

The Fournier tires arrived awhile ago. Couldn't believe how sharp the damn things are. There was no way I was going to go through the pain of mounting them on my rims, in my basement. It would have been like wrestling a Ginsu wielding porcupine.
$80 at ProCycle in Calgary seemed like a bargain.

I tried them out at Ghost Resevoir just outside Cochrane. There was a nice track carved out a bit west of the bridge.

I dug the heated grips out of the box. They'll go on the CB5X and the 990 for the spring. They (Oxfords) were ordered from Amazon for about $80 each. Anyone know a better supplier?

Regarding Timbersled Kits:
The Edson KTM shop had a few LT kits last time I spoke to them.

Question:
Given the increased mobility generally required to ride a bike over a sled, what riding gear seems to work the best?
Moto gear with winter layers underneath or regular snowmobile gear?

I hope I get out to Revy this winter. It's really not looking good.

I'll hit you up if I get my 510 together.
