Crackling Face on a Zumo 450?

Hello Everyone,

My search-Fu is weak at best... my GPS skills are also weak.

I have a Garmin Zumo 450 that I bought brand new and it has served me well over the last 5 years or so, the problem is all of a sudden, the face on the unit looks like it had a protective covering of some sort on it, and now is cracking so bad I can't see the unit unless it is in complete shade. I can't seem to be able to clean it off. Any idea's??

Thanks very much for any help. Eric.

So yesterday I was washing the bike after a 9 day trip around AZ. and NM. and I rubbed some WD-40 on the lense, and it is much better!

Maybe it just needed some lube??

I am still baffled about this, I just had the unit all tuned up and re-maped before the trip, and it is working perfectly, except for the peeling thing.

Any ideas??

Thanks everyone, Eric.

Sounds like the kind of screen problems that used to come from the 2720 and the like. You haven't left the screen protector that came on the unit when new on the thing all these years, have you?

If your electronic tech skills are as weak as your GPS and search skills, you probably don't want to change the glass, but IIRC there are replacements available from third party suppliers for a reasonable amount.

Have you called Garmin?

Haha... Why yes, yes my electronics skills are that weak, thanks for asking! Haha.. No, no changey the glass for Mongo! By buddies won't even let me handle the wrenches, I tend to break bolts...

I am not sure if I left the original skin on it or not, that is what it seems like though.

I was thinking about sending it back to Garmin for an overhaul, but it seems better with the lube on the face now, at least I can see it, somewhat.

Thanks for all your help! Eric. aka Mongo....

Hello Everyone,

Okay, so now I really did it now! I was moving my 450 to a better position on my bike and I dropped my unit on the triple clamp and cracked the screen... I called Garmin to see about sending it in for a overhaul, and they told me they stopped working on the 450 in May of this year!!

So, I ordered a brand new Garmin Montana 600 with North America pre loaded from the factory. in camo of all things, just got the best deal on the camo.

So, what do you guy's think of the Montana?

Thanks for all the help, Eric.
